Re: Kick ass Vai quote

[ QUOTE ]
Alexi was lucky to get featured in an article with 2 gods like Zakk and Vai. I've only heard one Children Of Bodom song (Needled 24/7) and thought it was quite good actually. But it still can't touch Zakk or Vai's best stuff.

[/ QUOTE ]

The reason why he made the cover is because Zakk and Vai are two of his influences. I'm happy that him and Vai are on there because they trying to put shred music back on top. Alexi has some cool riffs and solos, but his melodies is what sets him on the bar for greatness.

Actually when you have idols you do further reading upon them(i.e. who were their influences, what music inspired them) stuff like that. It's called having something to talk about when meeting them instead of looking like a dumbass with a stupid impression on your face. You should try it! You might learn something you never knew about guitarist that intrest you.

Oops. Instead of clicking on reply, I clicked on edit.

While I found your post insulting and offensive, I did not change it.

My only response at this time is:

Dude, you really need to learn to take a joke.

I don't understand why so many people don't like Alexi. The guy can shred and got his band to be relatively popular. I don't see any other shredders doing anything like that these days. That alone gets my respect, whether I like his music or not.

I've honestly never heard Alexi so I can't say I like him or not. But he's not the only shredder out there.

You should probably take a gander at some children of Bodom...or...Sinergy. Alexi's playging is probably on par with Yngwie, but the music is less ghey.

The descriptions that I've heard from many people leave me to believe that I wouldn't get into them.

I don't consider Yngwie's music "ghey" (whatever that means ), repetetive, overblown, and as of late under-produced; but "ghey" is not a term that I would use.

well that pretty much describes "ghey" for me.

uhh and I thought everyone likes him, well not me because there is nothing unique about his playing, that's my opinion, his solos have the same tonality, same formula and he is ripping off a lot.
Some of his fans has analyzed his playing and noticed that some of his solo parts are directly taken from classical pieces or Yngwie or Maiden solos.
I don't like to listen the same minor tonality on every solo he does and if I listen to him then I know exactly what he is going to do, I don't wan't to know how the solo goes, but his playing is so predictable IMO.
Remember that's only my opinion, I can understand that a lot of people like him, but not me, I have always liked freaks like Jeff Beck and Steve Vai whos playing is so unique and unpredictable so it is clear that Laiho's playing has nothing to offer to me.

Alexi would not exist without Yngwie. As for Alexi's bands, if you don't like death vocals
you'd probably enjoy Sinergy at least somewhat
since that band is power metal with clean vocals. Suicide By My Side is probably their best CD, definitely the most polished. Why does Alexi piss people off? He engages in the time-honored guitar-god pastime of talking a lot of shit to get attention. Some people laugh it off and othes are offended. For example, his opinion of DT doesn't mean a rat's ass to the DT guys. They are more established than Alexi Laiho will probably ever be. But a certain number of DT fans will say "Who the fukk does he think HE is?", check out his music and appreciate his ability
as well. Hell, Blackmore was well known for saying everybody sucked except him back in the 70s.

Rich...has a very good point.

Blackmoore was and always will be notorious for this...even if it is NOT true.

Pissing people off for attention....some would even say I do this....

Alexi is a great player.

Funny thing is , he's far from the best in his genre..

not only is he far from the best in his own game but he wasn't the original either..but he made it popular...it stuck...due to his image possiby...maybe good promotion from Nuclear Blast ...but I doubt it.

there were bands in his home town that sounded like COB well before COB was on the map..NORTHER and SKYFIRE are some.

I think their popularity blossomed in the states when the toured with Dimmu (giving them good exposure) ...until then they were totaly unknown here....now you can buy a COB shirt in the mall...which is cool I guess.

same with bands such as Lamb of God / Arch Enemy / Shadow Fall....lots of hard work and touring like mad with some high profile band's like the late Dime's Damageplan and Slayer..
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Yeah a lot of the new popular guys do have the right place at the right time thing going for them... but then again how many bands that made it didn't?

I've never met Alexi personally, but if you read COB forums he seems like a decent person and treats his fans well.

COB was around well before Norther, and I'm sure the same with Skyfire.

COB makes great music and Alexi is entitled to his opinion just like everyone. However, some of the statements he made are most likely propaganda to get the COB name out even more and establish a bigger fan base.
