Re: Kick ass Vai quote

Actually CoB and norther came around at the same time(96)... CoB had their stuff together though and got to press first and they were more successful

Re: Kick ass Vai quote

Norther was formed around '92 or so...and I believe COB shared a practice spot with Skyfire..early in their career..

I'm just saying that COB did not invent what they do...but they do have their own voice..as any good original band..but they did make this style of metal popular...which is fine with me...because I like it.

BTW...Kiss tried to rip off Van Halen as the guitar hero thing as well ...but Ace was incapable of that kind of shred ..not that he didn't try with his solo on Kiss Alive II in 1977 with that god aweful eruption-like rip off after "Shock Me" including his sloppy , random note , two handed tapping..I'm sure Gene was behind that as well..like he never told and showed the band his new discovery called Van Halen..or "Eruption"...and he put it out right before Van Halen one...and doesn't Christine Sixteen sound just like Jamies Cryin'...how convienant....No wonder Ed used to turn his back to the audience , so nobody could cop his crap...He wanted the credit...for the tapping thing...and he got it!

I'm surprised Gene didn't snag Ed back then...wouldn't that have been something.

just talkin'..I had Alive II on earlier

COB formed in '93 - in Finland
Skyfire in '95 - in Höör, Sweden

so that would've been quite the trick to share rehearsal space!

Norther didn't form til '96 so once again Billy....you are talking outta your ass!

aahhhhhh man...

COB was "COB" in name only back in '93...just anyone he could jam with at school. Alexi had only been playing a few years.

They just put out a demo and Nuclear Blast scooped them up and immediately released their Something Wild debut in mid "98 ..more than fives years later..

Child Of Norther and myself already had this conversation....he eloborated on this subject once before.

Wrong again, Billo! Man, just quit now! Laiho's band was known as Inearthed until he switched it to COB around '96. Inearthed was with at least 2 labels before recording Something Wild - IN 1997 for Spinefarm. Then NB picked 'em up.

I just want to make Tim feel better!!!!

Tim did you ever hear Vai on that PIL album...I had that vinyl...ther was a song on their called "fishing"...back around 85 I guess...well it was a Vai solo in a punk band...cool!!!

I always liked that silly Zappa song.."Stevie's Spanking"..off the "Them or us" album..he trades off with the Dweezil..when he was 14 or so..

I still need Dweezil's "Having a bad day" on cd..

OK, I'll end this post with the name.....STEVE VAI.

I have the PIL CD. It's fun stuff. Stevie's Spanking is hilarious - you've got to love a song that encorporates bananas, hair brushes, and shredding.

Steve And Zappa did a great track "Fuck Yourself" (on flexable leftovers)I think it is hilarious.

Talked to Allan Zavod a few years ago (ex Zappa keyboard player) he sayd that Frank was very professional musician, always focused when he was working.
