Whats with all the bashing of the Great One? The only people who do that are:
The french - They only like French players.
The newfies/east coasters - They are so stoopid, their favorite players are the guys dressed like zebras and the little black guy who everyone hits with their stick, and Im not talking about Donald Brashear............
i never understood , being that gretzky was so good and could score at any time, almost at will, why nobody ever took his head off or sent him into the 4th row of the seats.

They tried many times. Look at how many seasons he played, and how many games he missed in that time. The ice is a big surface, its not like he can hide somewhere, like all his distractors claim..............

Gretzky always had goons on his team who's sole purpose was to protect Wayne.

Gretzky was great. I'm not bashing him at all, way too much respect for him. The record books speak for themselves. I do think he got some star treatment. Sort of like Jordan did, greatest players always got the benefit of the doubt. He was so great for the game of hockey I felt they had rules of engagement toward him, you hurt him, you hurt the game of hockey I wouldn't want to be the guy who injured him that for damn sure
As a player I was never afraid to go in the corners, take a hit, give a hit or drop the gloves when needed. There was always protection for the finesse players but I never felt I needed it
Besides the goons, Gretzky was also great at dishing off the puck quickly. By the time someone got to him he wouldn't have the puck anymore and then there was no reason to hit him. If he was targeted for a hit, he was fast enough to distract his supposed attacker until the aforementioned goons (like Marty McSorley) got a head of steam to take the attacker out.
this thread is making me more angry now that there's no season whatsoever. i miss the action!!!! i put espn on last night around 2:30 a.m. and two guys were having a catch-lol
this winter blows for sports.

that's when you need a guy like paul newman and the hanson brothers, and stick crack mccracken who would level him at any cost-lol

Hansons wouldn't touch Gretzky. He'd shout, "Gordie Howe" or "Toe Blake" and the Hansons would be all like, "WHERE??!?" and then spend the whole night looking for them for autographs.
Reggie... Well, all you'd have to do was find him some of that other kind of box and he'd forget all about Wayne.
