Re: Jeffrey McDonald

maybe it is the age thing...

maybe people that grew up in the golden age of gore..late sixties-early seventies..were desensitized at a early age.

The cost of those cool movies back then would cover the advertising costs of a crappy movie today....movies relied on acting rather than effects and visual fluff..

For a fun gore movie...what is more fun than a movie like Evil Dead 2..

I remember when Scream opened..in the first ten minutes of that film I thought a kick ass horror movie was born ...the Drew Barrymore intro was cool as hell..then it just took a big dump!

No man...I never seen that ...

I didn't know there was a movie about Ed Gein..he was the dude Texas Chainsaw was based on.

is it good?

The "story" to Saw was disturbing ...yes. But the disturbing parts were all left to the imagination ...well most of it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I saw Ed Gein... I didn't really like it though... It felt really made for TV and well it was made for cable I think so go figure

Yeah I know Saw wouldn't be scary to me but as you said the premise is disturbing. I know there are big holes in it and the acting towards the end is just flat out terrible, and no movie has scared me since the shinning or the Omen because my sister freaked me out and literally tied me to a chair and forced me to watch the omen and told me our dead mother was haunting the house

Anyway the most non disturbing but should be disturbing movie is LA Confidential. The movie was alright but read the Book. The whole LA trilogy by James Ellroy... The Movie was good and it had different twists but you being a former cop I think you would appreciate teh book which is far darker and pretty sick. The Black Dahlia and white Jazz are all part of the same series... Good books....

I guess I tend to like guys who have Violent ending of their parents life ie Dave Navarro, Chuck Pahlinuk and James Ellroy... Maybe I'm the sicko..

The exorcist was flat out fantastic no doubt... The problem is all "horror" movies of today are pretty much B actor stuff. Now if you get a good actor in a horro movie either the rest of the cast sucks or the plot is so foolish it isn't funny.

The Keith and I watched "The Grudge" last night. Here I was, all excited and hyped up about being freaked outta my skin... watched the whole thing and when it was over said, "THAT'S IT?!!"
Man, I was so disappointed in this movie. It was just "The Ring" all over again really, but not as good. Some creepy effects (which was cool, but not scary) and the plot was thin in my opinion.
I'm getting tired of these cookie-cutter horrors.
If it doesn't totally confuse the hell out of you and mess with your head, it's not a good psychotic thriller.
I'm in the mood to watch "Hellraiser" now just to clear my head.

Em...that is right...Cookie Cutter horror...all this horror stuff should be called ...Nu-Horror...because that is what it is...or equal to.

well all this crap is usually like a MTV video with the matching soundtrack...and cheeze.

These are movies that you take your first girlfriend to and get a hand job under your leather jacket...and the awkward tug job was always more frightful than the movie..

Yeah, I watched The Grudge last night. Some good stuff with some cool suspense here an there, but was overall dissapointed. I figured it out pretty quickly. The end was a bummer as well.

I thought that Micheal Jackson was one the "creatures"!! Laughing about that, was probably the best part of the movie for me! The GF and the son basically liked it, they were getting creeped out on a few parts. I was a bit iffy on it all I'd say though, I was expecting better.

Rented Saw to watch with my son tonight while the GF is at work, as the GF already "saw" it... She liked it a lot though and said we needed to see it.

RE: Bill

You are right! Most of the current so called horror movies are cliche. Seems like all these special FX people watched the "Beutiful People" video and went from there. It's your typical slacker gen-X bullshit. Texas Chainsaw was and in my opinion one of the greatest horror movies of all time. To me, it's right up there with The Fog, Halloween, etc. I was more disturbed than scared after watching SAW and The Grudge. People have some sick imaginations out there. My whole thing is how can anybody get off watching other people suffer? It's bad enough people have to suffer in this world to some extent or another.

I am a fan of old school horror movies too. Vincent Price made some killer shiit back in the day. The Omen is another one that is scary. Amityville Horror is another one. I could go on.

I agree with ya Bill.
