I had a Snakehead but I had to get rid of him. He grew huge, killed everything in the tank and re-decorated it. I was actually afraid to clean the inside of the tank.

Re: Aquarium Question

I had a Red belly Piranha in one tank and my Big old Red Oscar named "Charlie" in the other..Charlie was cool...damn fish like to be petted..not kidding..

My dad bought a Jack Dempsey and he was picking on Charlie ..just making his poor life hell...

so we put him with the Piranha so he could really have a play friend..next morning...just the head was floating in the tank...see ya Jack!!!

The piranha used to go into spazes once in a while for no stupid reason..he would be just floating there blowing a bubble or two...and then just spazz...he always knocked down the thermometer...so once I put my hand in there to get the thermometer...and he went into one of his spazzes...the damn thing bit me...I didn't even feel it...but my he got me good...a deep little cut on my thumb...still have a little scar on it...from 25 years ago..

Are fish really pets or are they more like living lava lamps...for decor..

Sorry I know squat about aqaariums...but John does..he's only got a fish or two in there now...I think they all got SARS or somethin'..

Charlie had "Ick" once....once I think I had "ick"...I think its contagious

Re: Aquarium Question

I did some reading and it seems that the best bet for me is to get a Fluval 304 or 404, a Magnum 330-350 or one of those Eheim's. It is actualy quite simple. Water leaves the tank, goes through tht canister, and back into the tank. I guess I could get power heads and stuff too.
If anybody has a used canister filter that would work on around a 75 gallon tank I am interested. I don't mind used.
I even have music gear to trade for one if you are interested. Thanks for all the totally awesome info. This place never stops amazing me.

Re: Aquarium Question

Well, it looks to me like I don't actually have 4 Jack Dempsey's but rather 4 Firemouths. I got them at Petco. The tank was marked Firemouths and Jack Dempseys. They are only 2" long. The guy at Petco didn't know if they were Dempsey's or Firemouths so I told him to pick out 4 that looked the same. Actually, they all looked the same. I saw pics of them online and they certainly look like Firemouths but they don't have any read in them yet. They have the dot on their sides. Now that I am pretty sure they are Firemouths I am gonna get some Convicts for the tank and maybe a Pleco.
