Finished Mötley Crüe's "The Dirt" this morning...

Now reading:
Mario Puzo - The Fourth K
President Francis Xavier Kennedy is elected to office, in large part, thanks to the legacy of his forebears - good looks, privilege, wealth - and is the very embodiment of youthful optimism. Too soon, however, he is beaten down by the political process. Disabused of his ideals, he becomes a leader totally unlike what he has been.

When his daughter becomes a pawn in a brutal terrorist plot, Kennedy, who has obsessively kept alive the memory of his uncles' assassinations, activates all his power to retaliate in a series of violent measures. As the explosive events unfold, the world and those closest to him look on with both awe and horror.

I just finished reading "Flags of our Fathers"...a book by the son of one of the flag raisers of Iwo Jima on Mount Surabachi.

It basically goes over the lives (and deaths) of each member of the flag raising, their background and childhood, events leading up to the Amphibious Landing.

I'm a Marine...and this is very close to our hearts. I went to Mt Surabachi in 95 for the 50th anniversary commeroration, and it was a very surreal, powerful experience. I still have a little bit of the sand...which is very special and sacred to me.

It is a terrific read, tragic, triumphant, and a great inspirational look at history as it happened on that horrific day.

RIP to all the heroes who died, both ours and theirs....they deserve respect as warriors

Umberto Eco's - Foucaults Pendulum is the way to go over the Da Vinci Code IMO. IT is not a very fast read but far more detailed in the "spiritual" sense which might interest you.

Yes, quite an excellent book indeed. What was it....Ma Gavde La Nata? Would you be so kind as to remove the cork?

I still use that phrase when I encounter a self righteous windbag.

Exiles At The Well Of Souls by Jack L Chalker. It's book 2 of the Well World series. Crazy epic Sci-Fi. Read the first book as a teen and found the entire series around X-mas at a used book sale.

Before this I read an anthology of H.P. Lovecraft stories. Fuggin' awesome.

Hmmm, I remembered that I posted this list. How bad is it that I've only read 4 of these books and yet we went to the bookstore this weekend and got a handful more?

I think I'm as bad with books as I am with guitars.

I re read some oldies lately -

The Lost World - Doyle
Day of the Triffids - Wyndham
First Men in the Moon - Wells

amazing books, all are relativly short so an easy read. Total classics. They don't write 'em like that any more.

For sci fi lately I was also reading

Farnhams Freehold - an old Heinlein book. Family transported to the future thru an apocalyptic event. Traditional family relationships break down into strange alliances and incest, then later a futuristic city and populace discover them. Pretty bizarre book, especially for Heinlein.

The Iron Dragons Daughter - forget the guys name.
Hard to describe. Wild sci fi/fantasy book, very wild. I would definitely recommend it, definitely an original.

For non fiction I'd check out

Revolt of the Masses - Ortega y Gasset
I have always loved this book, fantastic. I think everyone should read it. Analysis of the rise of the common man to power. Left wingers are generally greatly offended by it, as a misinterpretation usually, but the book has many levels and is more complex than it initially seems.

Crowds and Power - Canneti
Very cool analysis of crowd behavior, mob mentality, use of crowds by Hitler and other dictators

That's all I know is Mafia stuff..as a kid..it was always 'bout biz and money!

one morning ..my house was covered in money..wall to wall money..you couldn't avoid stepping on money if you tried.

It took 2-3 days for my mom and dad to count the money..since then my favorite thing in the world is money...but I made it the easy way...as a cop!
