These really are amazing times. It is incredible to see reporters from supposedly independent news organizations participating in the hard-core propaganda campaign advancing man made global warming theories as gospel truths. I know we covered this ground elsewhere but it remains amazing to me that free people hypontize themselves into believing there are no other credible theories, no credible dissenting authorative voices , even when you place counter examples right in front of them. Or, that it is proper to silence dissenting opinion.
One of my favorite books, "Darkness at Noon," is a fantastic examination of the manipulation of truth and the malleability of the human mind to exterior forces that seek to shape what it perceives at truth. The book explores how representatives of the Soviet State established the Truth according to utilitarian requirements and enforced acceptance. More interesting to me is the examination of the individual's reaction to the pressure to accept as truth what he knows is false, especially psychological/intellectual pressures (as opposed to physical.) Anyone interested in brainwashing psychology or the Stalin purges during the Great Terror would probably find this book interesting. The author is Arthur Koestler.

I'm reading the whole "Left Behind" series of books. There are 12 and I and into 10. It's God's gift to religion-based fiction. It has blood and guts; a pretty good storyline; all the "Chapter and Verse" anyone needs; angels; miracles; the Antichrist; the "Second Coming" and easy to read print. I can't wait to see how it ends.

Of course, I read, teach and write, so this thread would be endless for me.

I had a guy walk into my music room (which doubles as my office) to buy a cab from me. He noticed the bare wood floor, and looked ahead at the only bare wall in the room, against which my amp and cab were sitting. He said to me, how do you stop the sound from bouncing around this room? I said, well, you know, books are great for soaking up sound. They're all shaped differently, uneven angles, and there's nothing better for keeping down echoes. He said, Yeah, but you need thousands of books to line a few walls. I said, turn around. Wall to wall to wall to floor to ceiling, books.

If I could have all the money back I've sunken into books, I could easily afford four Jackson custom shop orders at today's prices, maybe more. Have I read all of them? Heck no! I doubt if I've read 50%.

I love a good series too. I've gone through the Aubrey and Maturin series a couple times over the last few years. The Hornblower series is in the same genre. Both are really good. Escapism at its best.

As "Religious" as this series is, it just amazes me how much the authors just love to be graphic with the violence. There are no sex scenes but when the blood flys, it's a regular 300.

Currently reading Stranger In A Strange Land by Heinlein. Not what I expected at all. I read Starship Troopers back in high scholl. He's good, but man is he ever a sexist pig.

Does anyone pay retail for a book? I read a lot. Even with one eye. Talk about someone not getting a nickle a pop everytime his book is sold in the aftermarket. My first edtion of the DaVinci Code cost me 99 cents. I wouldn't pay $24 for a guitar, let alone a book.
