Just finished reading Revenge of the Godfather by Mark Winegardner.

Like his previous book, The Godfather's Return, this is a continuation of events set in motion by Mario Puzo's groundbreaking book, and Francis Ford Coppola's movies, The Godfather. I guess the issues I have with Weingardner's book is that he takes a lot of real-life history and writes it into his book. For example... The Kennedy situation. With Bobby's crusading against the mafia and John's assassination... They're in this book. The names have changed to protect the writer for plagarism from the history books, but the story is practically all there. All the way down to the motive of the New Orleans mob boss. (Carlos Marcello was deported quite illegally to Columbia and spent several months trying to get back into the country. All apparently because Bobby Kennedy wanted to get under his skin.)

With the Old Breed. -Sledge
Friend at work gave me this 1st person account by a marine of fighting on Peleliu and Okinawa. Sledge is an intelligent guy who gives an unguarded account of what he and his fellow marines experienced, what he thought and felt about it at the time. Every time I read about the Pacific war my impression is reinforced that this was the most brutal war against the most capable and fanatical enemy that the US has ever engaged. Sledge mentions it passing more than once, ' no quarter was ever asked for or given.'

Just finished Ric Flair's biography "To Be The Man", Fan-fucking-tastic. I am a huge wrestling fan so this was like candy for me. He dishes it all out: the business, the people, the lifestyle, etc. 10/10 for sure.

Now reading "The Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City" by Carl Smith... A little history before the last Star Wars Legacy of the Force book comes out on the 13th.

I'll be honest, of all the Star Wars books, this was probably my least favorite. (Probably tied with Truce at Bakura) But, with that said, it does have some redeeming qualities. Let me know when you're done. I'd like to get your take on it.
