Re: 14 guitars

I get annoyed by people with like 50 guitars. There's no fucking way you're playing them all. You're just keeping a good player off of the market. I've got 7. I want a few more, but everytime I get them, I don't like them more than what I've got.

I've owned maybe a little over 20 guitars since the mid '80s... only about 11 at one time. Now I'm down to 5 players and one that's retired. I've got one or two projects in the works and I'll be looking for a 7-string soon. Also, to get the wife off your back, ask her why she has so many different shoes or outfits.

How did I know I was going to get some retarded gremlin at my comment?

If you're a guitar collector that's one thing. You can't tell me if you have 50 guitars, you play them all. If you do, you're a damn liar.

I don't have enough time between working, my gigs, and my repair shop to restring mine as much as I'd like. The same 4 get taken care of, because they are the ones going out to the bars.

I don't know, 50 guitars isn't my thing. The most I've owned though is 23. I had so many in similar cases, that I had to put duct tape on them with their color/model. My collection at it's largest was a bunch of USA Strats a few (3)USA Jacksons, and a bunch of import Jacksons and Charvels. You know the grey chainsaw cases? I had duct tape on quite a few of them, and same with the rectangular black Jackson cases. I ended up selling a lot of them, because they weren't making me keep them. Does that make sense? Like, they played good or whatever, but I'd have another that played/sounded better to me. So I unloaded it.

The next question someone should ask is, how many people who have their guitars are super in debt?

Maybe it's your thing to have 200 guitars, and sure I may like to, but it's really not what I want to do.

Re: 14 guitars

strangely enough, my gf is always telling me to buy something if I like it, so I guess the go is there if I see the right thing. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot that I would buy at the right price, but I'm more than VERY happy with that I've got.

I'm down to 6 from 13, and I might move a couple more. I'm more interested in having 2 or 3 that just call my name,
that I will play constantly. The "Collector" bug comes and goes with me. Some days I want one of everything, other days
I fell like selling off the ones I hardly play.

Ask your wife how many pairs of shoes does she have or something like that and then ask her if THAT'S normal. Worked for me....

Re: 14 guitars

I was up to close to 20 guitars at one time. I have 3 guitars and 1 bass right now. 1 custom on order.

I just couldn't play many of them regularly, and a few were too pristine to play. So I sold most of them. It's nice to have some of the room back. I kept my top 3, which is all I really need.

Re: 14 guitars

I'm up to 24 - two are due in this week. And yes, I play all of them (well, actually I have two neckless bodies and one that won't intonate, so until I get them up and running I'm not playing them, but you get the idea). If I had a band, you can bet they'd all get stage time - especially The Halford

Some people collect baseball cards and leave them in a case or a box - where's the problem? Aren't THEY keeping "good players" off the market?
And what about all these people getting married or otherwise entering "exclusive" relationships? Aren't THEY keeping good players off the market?

I honestly don't see how these guys can list auctions like "..the wife says I have too many guitars.."

Have 2.5 electrics and 2 acoustics (steel and nylon string). I'd like to get some different guitars, like a strat, a 2 hum shredder (SL2H), a LP model, maybe a PRS and thats about it I guess. 15+ guitars seems to me as a little too much, I haven't even room for those

I am lucky enough to have both stocks and guitars, although my stock picks sucked worse than my guitar addiction.

No right or wrong here, everyone should do what makes them HAPPY. Guitars and science are the only two things in my life that I didn't bore of. I still play guitar everyday and love them. I have been lucky enough to acquire a good collection and 95% (TRUTH)of them get played. Usually I play 6 or 7 a nite and work my way through them. For the first time ever, presently I do have some sitting in cases, about 8. I hate seeing guitars sit in cases so I will get those out ASAP.

At the end of the day I like them, can never get back what I paid for them but I don't care. I won't be selling them anyway. It makes me happy and I could care less if people think they are wasted by being with me instead of some better player..boo hoo. You can not please everyone in life so I try and please myself.

For the record, I own 137 guitars at the moment (but I have 2 custom orders placed and I have one being shipped today). I had at one time 168 guitars in my collection but I sold off my ESP, Dean, Fender Strats, Kramer and a lot of Gibsons once I got hooked on Charvels.

Guitars are cool...you can play them, look at them and talk with other cool people about them...what more ya want...it is a great hobby. Noting can beat the feeling of having a shitty day and going home and picking up a cool guitar, pluggin in and playing music...for me TNT (AC/DC) is a must play on bad days at a good volume, love the riff...enjoy them and don't worry be happy!
