Re: 14 guitars

Alright, I've been debating on posting this as I'm not ultimately to crazy on having the bragging rights for so many guitars. You can show your wife these, ..this is my 'project' rack. (you have to ignore the wall hanger cheapo acouctic) 95% of these are guitars that are getting a makeover in some respect.. fretwork, new pickup(s), new bridge, rewire...etc,etc..
Some of these are slowly getting resolved and should be off the rack after about a few hours of setup. If I applied myself, I could take about 10 off there in a week.
Granted, these are not as nice or as valuable as Tracy's, but there's some decent players: Jackson, Charvels, BC Rich, Washburn, Fender & Kramers.

So.. without further ado.... some pics of my amp and guitar stands I got done building last month from some leftover wood I had from another shelving project.
The guitar stand separates into two sections and is dowelled to keep it in place. warning: it's not pretty, but its functional and helped organize that which I need to finish.

Keep in mind... I was a guy that had one guitar for about 15 years. That red 70's strat body with a chrome pickguard you see by the necks was part of it. I still only 'need' just one, but a few isn't a bad thing.

WOW!
Your place is like a Guitar tech room or something.
If I knew how to build guitars, it would be a lot of fun doing thinsg like you do with these.

Re: 14 guitars

Nice. I keep all of mine in the bedroom, which is probably why my wife is concerned.

I bet if I kicked one of my sons out of the house and took his bedroom and made it my music room, it would be better.............uh, nevermind. She won't go for that either.

Actually , she's pretty good about it. She keeps saying that she'll never stop me from buying a guitar cause she knows its my love. But I'm starting to think this could be a guilt trip she's putting me thru. You know, telling me it's ok as she slowly stares down at the floor.

Man, I have to stop and count them all out in my head everytime someone asks me that question. I'm up to 17, and that is only because I just got rid of two.

Everytime my girlfriend gives me a hard time, I remind her that she actually PAYS MONEY to be a memeber of the Metallica Club. "You see, honey, my money has a tangible benifit. Your money just pays for Lars to buy more artwork."

You buy a few books, do some research online and dive in.
A good buddy I grew up with went to the luthier school in Red Wing, he'll help if I run into to much trouble, plus I have the forums. I almost took courses there as well but alot of this you can learn as you go even tho I wish I went when I was younger. You never know, I may still do it someday. It'd be fun to do in retirement. I like tinkering but this is a little overwhelming at the moment which was why I built the stands. That guitar stand takes up less floor space than an aquarium. It's about 40x20 but is up the ceiling.

Can a person ever really have too many guitars???? If you know how many you have, you don't have enough!

Actually, like Todd said - he has 28 (almost) I know he has played them all. I know he has a number of them is "working on" stage. I see nothing wrong with it. I can see a wife/sig other having a hissy if someone is having money problems - you know, not paying the bills - and is still out there spending thousands on guitars. But if you have the money, why not get what you like. It's liek Jewelry, clothes or anything else - you only wear one set of clothes at a time - why have a closet full.

I think my brother in law went to that school. He's got a sweet Martin Clone he made there. I would love to get him to make another one for me.

I don't feel bad about my guitars anymore.I currently own 3 Electrics, 1 Acoustic, 1 Bass, and 1 Backpacker.

i used to own 62. i think that was my highest total. i caught alot of heat as i bought them all in about my first year of collecting. Yo Don, tell your girl that at least you don't overpay and also that you don't possess the "not a drop" of self control disease like i did, and do.

here they are, mopst of 'em anyway. there's about 7 or 8 that did not make the page. losing them all just about sliced off my dick, heart, and will to breathe.
