Dude to pull people into your metal world you got to impress them ...BIG TIME!!

So right off the top of my head..this warrants..

Iced Earth ..Something Wicked This way comes...or the Dark Saga

Brainstorm...just about anything they do..

Gamma Ray ...New world Order..

Nevermore....friggin' anything!

Kamelot...anything with Khan as singer

The last couple of Nocturnal Rites is very good..

possibly some Statovarius or Nightwish..Symphony X..

I haven't showed this stuff to anyone who didn't like it..

DON'T go all extreme on them...Metal is like a drug...start them off slow...then pull out the hard stuff when their hooked!!
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

Give them some old school melodic Maiden. Even my 6 year old daughter likes that stuff. Then later bust 'em on the head with some BLS, Shadows Fall, and Master of Puppets.

Start with Black Sabbath, up through Priest, Ozzy, Maiden, Motorhead, and early Metallica (Lightning, Puppets), then into Rust In Peace, Countdown, and then finish up with Testament's Souls Of Black.
If they dig all of that, then hit them with the harder stuff with cookie monster vocals.

Do NOT give them the Gay 80's Hair Metal stuff like Warrant and Poison.

you guys... step out of your own frame he is not given an complete metal education, just a short getting acquaintance CD. I'd say, go with Bills idea, it would exaclty be what I would have recommended. maybe some Sonata Arctica, but spoken in general; Bill had a good list!

Re: Metal for dummies

When I first heard Puppets, I thought it sucked. Battery sounded like a Polka, and I didn't even give the rest of the disc a chance. Turns out that was the only song on the disc I didn't like, but it turned me off the whole thing for years.
So you don't just jump into the Hard Stuff with new people to get them interested if they don't already have a foundation in the early stuff like Sabbath or Priest, because they won't know where it came from.

Re: Metal for dummies

Stay away from powermetal, it's way to technical and complicated to be understood or appreciated by non-players.
Cleveland Metal is right, then give some of the slower stuff off of South Of Heaven.
