• How close is your band?

My band is like my family. I know I can always count on anyone in my band at anytime for anything. This past weekend when I was in need of a friend, my whole band was by my side before I could even ask. I know that they love me too and we are like brothers(and a sister who happens to be sleeping with one of the brothers...gross!!) I love everyone in my band. Is this normal, or am I particularly blessed?

My first band was very much like that. The best example was when my drummer committed suicide the night of the singer/guitar players wedding. It was like we lost a brother.

Re: How close is your band?

My band and I were close. The previous bass player and drummer were like my brother and sister (girl drummer). I've never really been close with the other guitar player in my band. But altogether we could always have a laugh and always knew how to have fun on stage.

Now we have new members, it doesn't feel the same. Although we all have alot in common with music tastes and dreams, we're just not too close. I surpose it will take some time.

That's a real shitty thing to have to live through my brother, I am sorry.

Thanks man, I did not mean to be a downer, it was almost ten years ago and I have dealt with it. I do know exactly where you are coming from with the relationship you and your mates have. Do everything you can to keep it alive, that bond is very rare.

Re: How close is your band?

I wish I could get that feeling of brotherhood back in my main band. Ever since September of last year where the bass player was kicked out (he and I have been friends for at least 8 years and one of the other dudes wanted him out of the band, we did a vote on it and I lost 2 to 1) my band has been sort of split up into 3 seperate guys with different mindsets until we got a new bass player. It might sound crazy but I feel closer to the new bass player that has been in the band for about 3 months than I do with the other two older members (though I think that it has something to do with philosophical / personal beliefs). Though lately everyone seems to be getting back on the same page.

In the other band I'm in I can see it reaching a brotherhood in a few months (I've only been in for about 6 months, and the old guitar player rejoined). Everyone's really down to earth and very cool.

Re: How close is your band?

my band is even more family than band actually...
we're still looking for a reasonable rehearsalroom, but won't find anything.
so till then we reduce band-life to jam, recording and party sessions...

we still lack a bass-driver but the rest of these freaks I've been knowing and loving for quite a long while.
the guitar fraction-feel is just awesome!!
three guys (yap!!), good for nothing and always same nonesense in mind.
it's great.

we all love the same music, children of bodom, devin townsend, pink floyd, in flames.... so there's no problem at all.

does anyone here have experiences with girls/women in band?
our singer is female, even though she sometimes does seem to have more balls than me...
she's not like 90% of these girls, who might have problems with the rougher side of rock'n roll attitude, ya know?
doesn't feel different at all than with the guys.

I'd never be able to play in a band with people I don't at least like. music is something personal for me, and I like to take care with whom I share it.
and I'm only acceptable good when I feel good.

Re: How close is your band?

my band is not really a brotherhood, it's more like 2 sets of brothers. the singer and i have been friends since we were 4 and have been working together since 1988. we write all the songs and have the vision of where we want the band to be. the bass player and drummer have been friends forever also. they play in their own band. i met them through producing several of their records in the past, when i was doing that sort of thing. the really funny part is that those guys are hired guns (literally - we pay them to play in our band) and the group feels more like a band than it has with the last several lineups!! but still no brotherhood!!
GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

No brotherhood at all. My last band was by far the most talented no doubt but we hated each other. That is why I am not in a band

Re: How close is your band?

Yeah...no family values here in ANY band I've ever been in!

Hell...my ex-wife was my bass player, and look where THAT went! We had been a "package deal" in any band(s) we were in the entire time we were together, which was a few. But things end, and go their seperate ways. So I look at any band as a vehicle now, and much less as a "brotherhood" or "family" of sorts now.

Re: How close is your band?

Me and my friends are my band. Since I moved to NY when I was 16 these guys have been my friends and the reason we all even play instruments is because we were a bunch of guys in school who bonded over Megadeth. Now all these years later we are still the best of friends, we hang out every day (I mean that, every day) most of the time it's not for jamming. Yesterday we went to the comic shop, dinnier, bar then played video games.

I couldnt have a better group of people to jam with, my best friends, the people I love and trust most in the world. and yes, my ex was creeped out by how close the 5 of us are ... and a little jealous.

Yes. Our bassist is a woman. It's been a very good experience since the singer and I have known her for 10 years. She's more musically educated and has a lot of good ideas. I think she adds a lot sonically and visually (it's nice for the audience not to have a total sausage-fest up there).

There are some communication issues: She's a bit quiet, so I have to be active in drawing her into the decision-making and songwriting...we just need to be clear that we're listening and interested in her ideas. I do what I can to help everybody enjoy what we're doing, whether it's picking a good cover or turning their riffs or words into a good original. Well, "good" by our standards, anyway!

Not really close with my current band...Their good guys and we all get along great but outside of the band we don't see each other at all...

My old band was REALLY close, but our bassist was GODAWFUL, his parts were easy as hell and I had to record them for him because he has no interest in getting better...I wanted to find a replacement but the rest of the band refused because the bassist was such a good friend...This is where being close in a band can create problems...I quit that band because the guys weren't serious enough about the actual band to make it worth the time, effort and money that had to be put in to keep it going...

Me and the other guitar player are very close. We have been playing together for over ten years now. We're also pretty close with our bass player. We have known our singer for a long time, but he's only been back with our band for 6 months. He used to be a major cokehead, and it probably damaged our relationship at the time. Things are getting better, but it's gonna take a while. The drummer is new, so time will tell.

The 4 guys in my band are close, been friends for a long time. But their wives all hate me with a passion because of the "stuff" we say and do at our gigs...oh well.
