    Re: Sin City

Dwight mentioned his "new face," which is a reference to A Dame To Kill For. But that's not in the movie. They should have used a cut-down version of that instead of the Big Fat Kill. Then they would have had some interaction between Dwight and Marv, making Dwight's story more relevant to the overall structure of the movie.

The senator doesn't get a punishment, but his brother and son do. Marv and Hartigan die, but Dwight lives. Again, if they would have re-edited the plot so Dwight would have also died, perhaps going up against the senator, it would have all worked out a lot better thematically. As it is, the middle section is inconsequential. If the concern was to be true to the comics, then why did they did make a change in the story by having Becky survive the ambush? Just to use the lame Tales From the Crypt "bookend" format.

Marv and Kevin re-appear with no explanation, other than the less delapidated Basin City sign to indicate this story took place prior. Which throws the whole timeline out of whack. If the plan was to do multiple stories in one movie, they needed to work on the editing to make it all more viewer-friendly.

We still don't know where the finger in the envelope came from.

Hartigan's wife doesn't make an actual appearance, but got a brief mention. Weak.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

      Re: Sin City

the explanation is that HArtigan's story is the beginnign and the end of the movie. Marv's was compeltely seperate..different time. It was all happenign very close together. when Hartigan kicks the yellow bastards ass at teh farm...Kevin hadn't yet been killed by Marv. Simple as that. It jumps around a bit.

Marv and Kevin reappear in the movie because all the Sin City books happen at the same time. So at that moment he was still alive and I'm sure if they panned around the bar you would have seen Dwight makeing his first appearance with his new face. Also something that's thrown into the books to make sure you know that the books happen at the same time is when Hardigan goes to the farm the cops that show up to stop him end up killing Marv's parolle officer since John's long gone with Nancy.

The key to Sin City is when you read the books is to watch the background because as your reading one story at times you see another story unfolding in the background.

              Regardless, this movie rocks.

I went into it hearing some bad reviews and expected it to be unimpressive.

It's way over the top... but I had a blast watching it.

I wanted to see it also...

My girlfriend had no interest in going, so I went alone this evening @ 9:30PM.
Being in small-town Wisconsin, there is myself and a couple in the theatre...During the previews, the girl asks me if I want to sit near them, being it is just the three of us...I would have rather stayed in the back, but not wanting to be rude I sat next to them...It isn't a half-hour later she is rubbing my leg as her boyfriend looks on...I am not a rock star, just an old guy...I have a serious girlfriend of several years I just adore so I ackwardly got up and left...Not a very sexy ending, but I saw only 45 minutes and didn't get to finish my pop or my popcorn..It looked like a great movie though, lol... I'm not familiar with Millers stuff or the comic book, I went in knowing nothing of the story. I enjoyed it in a few ways though. Rourke was a super star the character Marv is a new hero of mine. jessica Alba well I work in the strip club buisness, & she could rub my pole anytime. Willis i enjoyed, as the old cop. The kid with the freaky eyes I could've done with out. 2 worthy Mentions are Powers booth, & ofcourse Rutger Huagher enuff said there he's Rutger Huagher. Over all it's kinda long but worth it.

all the Sin City books happen at the same time.

                          Not exactly.

The first Dwight story (the one not in the movie) takes place about the same time as Marv's story. The parts of Hartigan's story where Nancy was 11 years old obviously took place eight years before. The parts where she was 19 also took place before Marv's story, but there are no strong indicators as to exactly how long. The second Dwight story, the one in the movie, takes place much later. But here it's inexplicably wedged between Marv and Hartigan.

Which is exactly my point. With the movie, there was the opportunity to weave all the stories together into one cohesive narrative. Instead, the filmmakers merely wasted their efforts on a near-verbatim regurgitation of the comics into another medium. Pointless.

When I said it happens at the same time one should be able to tell that Nancy at 11 and 19 can't possibly happen at the same time , the same for Hardigan's prison term. The events are close enough to be linked together and for you to see different stories happening in the background of all the books.

Holy shit this movie rocks! It had everything, fighting, gore, porn, some asshole getting his equipment shot at AND ripped off, boobies, more fighting and gore, Jessica Alba almost naked, and more kick ass stuff. We need more movies like this being made.
