When I say it, in my mind "it" refers to her "you-know-what" and not the woman herself. Plus, saying "I'd hit her" would sound really awkward.

Yeah, it would work better in French or Spanish (or pick your favorite Latin based language) as the word for the female privates would have a female gender.
