Musician's friend recording gear??

My bro gave me some money in the form of a gift certificate to Musician's friend. I'd really like to use it towards some recording gear. If someone where to put a gun to your head and say, "Buy something" what would you get?
I'd like to keep it within reason and around $500 or so plus mics.
I don't need a burner and I'd like something I can punch in and move stuff around so I'm thinking digital?????

I'd say an Digi MBOX, but I think that's the whole $500. But it includes a lite version of Pro Tools if I'm correct which is awsome for recording direct or with a mic

you got a decent pc, then just get Adobe Audition/Cool Edit pro 2.0, for free [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] and then spend your 500 bucks on decent cables and mics/stands. Shure SM57 is a classic mic and you cant go wrong with it
