  • Calder Cup Playoffs start tonight

I know it's not the Stanley Cup, but it'll have to do for now. Anybody got any favorites?? I'm going for my home team. The Chicago Wolves.

Is there enough interest to keep tabs on the playoffs here? If so then I'll post the action and possibly maintain brackets... Let me know.

Go Baby Penguins...not looking good for the Pens considering Binghamton owned them this season seven out of eight games.

Not sure if anyone is carrying it. I'm sure local/cable news outlets differ. I do know here, they televise the Wolves on Cable.

Sadly.... this came over the wire, shooting down your prophesy...

NHL will not start in October without labor agreement

                          April 20, 2005
NEW YORK (Ticker) - If the NHL season starts in October, it will not be with replacement players.

After a four-hour meeting with the NHL's Board of Governors on Wednesday, commissioner Gary Bettman maintained that the league is determined to reach a collective bargaining agreement with the Players Association before the 2005-06 season is scheduled to begin.

"We will continue to plan for the start of next season with an on-time opening in October, that is where our efforts will be," Bettman said. "If we do not have a new collective bargaining agreement, we will not open the season on time."

That dispelled the rumor that the Board of Governors would consider using replacement players in October if a CBA could not be reached.

The 2004-05 campaign was wiped out, making the NHL the first major North American sports league to have an entire season canceled due to a labor dispute.

On Tuesday, a 6 1/2-hour meeting with the league and the Players Association yielded no progress toward reaching a new CBA, although the sides did agree to schedule more talks.

Tuesday's bargaining session was the first since April 4, when the union rejected a pair of proposals by the league, both of which included a salary cap and one introducing linkage of players' salaries to league revenue. The NHLPA countered with a plan involving a floating team-by-team payroll with a floor of $30 million and a ceiling of $50 million.

Bettman canceled the 2004-05 campaign on February 16. In March, the league officially canceled the 2005 draft, which was slated to take place in Ottawa in June.
