Re: Sober JCF\'ers Thanks!!!

I don't drink. Its fun being sober when all your friends are getting hammered. Especially the next morning.

I don't drink because I can't..

BUT , I am not allowed to be sober...

I'm in way too much pain to be sober...

sober = pain ...for me.

for the rest of my life..

Re: Sober JCF\'ers Thanks!!!

I went through a terrible drinking phase between 1992 - 1994, so bad that it nearly sidelined my education. I quit cold turkey in December 1994 and was dry until July 1, 2004.

Last summer I lost my battle and started to drink again, not much but more than none. I haven't had anything for a number of months and am not currently feeling the "pull", so hopefully my resolve will win.

I tend to drink when my health is failing, which makes no sense. I know how detrimental alcohol is to my body in its weakened condition but it seems the only way to blunt the physical pain. It's a battle, man - best of luck!

I just wanted to thank you guys. Its been 3 months and I have not even had a drop. My life already has totally changed.I look better, feel better, play better than I ever have.

I was reading this thread everyday for the first month...

I read the AA book the first week, But it made me feel as if I was having a panic attack.

I did a junk food kick for about 3 weeks. Then I was finding myself driving around at night...SOBER because I never could. I would drive by places I lived, friends houses from back in the day. I guess searching for something... One day I went to my old High School, which I graduated from 15 years ago. I walked around on a Sat. when a game was going, I went and sat down at the place where my old gang of buddies hung out. I thought about the last 15 years. instead of thinking about My ex wife, the house I lost in the divorce, the money I blew being depressed, I thought of all the good things I accomplished, and that drinking might have been the demise of "myself" losing control of my life without anyone, including myself ever thinking booze was the issue. So I had my last Big Mac, got with a Dr. Changed my diet, started working out, and well. I'm here today, happy as a MF!!!! I read a book called "How to quit dringing without AA" Its mainly a book on vitamins and stuff, but I read it cover to cover in one sitting and It sits in my coffee table. I have had 4 friends read it and they have now laid back on the booze to the point where they thanked me for quiting because it has helped them.

Its wild to see what I wrote too, I was scared to quit for all the wrong reasons.

I also have done every possible sittuation and have yet to take a drink , been to bars, casinos, the river, no beer, no nothing.

Lost 35 pounds and people say I look better than I did 10 years ago.

Its a day to day thing, but I pretty much see a difference, the high now is being sober and looking better when I did at 23 !!!

Thanks again.

Something you will find very useful is to make your diet more alkaline, less acidic. Gary Null on PBS talks about this and has an informative website. Eat as many organic vegatables as you can incorporate into a meal. Stay away from gluten, sugar, red meat, etc. Alcohol turns to sugar in your system and is highly addictive! Had great sucess using a product called "Vitamineral Green" in a brown glass jar. Cost about $50.00 and you can get it from Whole Foods or your local health food store. Can also order it online from Healthforce Nutritionals, the mfg. This should last you 1 to 2 months depending on frequency of use. Its a high alkaline superfood powder. Very economical when you realize its also used as a meal replacement / fasting tool (and all the money wasted to wreck yourself with booze and / or drugs) You can use a shaker or put in the blender. Aloe Vera juice optional (3/4th's water 1/4th aloe vera) Mix with water and drink daily. Start using once per day, increasing to twice daily. You will feel the cravings subside and an increase in stamina. Know what its like to be hooked on alcohol and caffine! Stay motivated and good luck!

Re: Sober JCF\'ers

The funny thing is, you mentioned you had 'one a day'. DO NOT STOP THIS!

If you drink one beer a day (even better a glass of wine or a nightcap of scotch) your heart will benefit greatly from it. It is advised to have a nice glass of wine or a nightcap every evening, it's GOOD for your health.

Excessive use, of course, as always, will lead to problems.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Just awesome to hear and I am glad that you found a program that works for you. While AA works for some it is not the be all and all of programs.

Red wine is the only alcohol considered by medical doctors actually good for you in small amounts. Get a good Cab or Merlot to enjoy responsibly.

Congrats!!! I'm still trying to cut down. I've only had 12 beers this week but they were all in 1 night. I used to drink a 12 pack a night every night a few weeks ago.
Don't forget the corn. It's nutritious, delicious, and ribbed for her pleasure.
