Ok, I know this is a guitar site, but I also have some songs, when we perform, that are keyboard parts that I transform into guitar parts. But I was thinking it would be cool to actually do them on a keyboard. I've been tinkering on my little Yamaha at home and learning the parts, but it would be good to take a keyboard out to a club and perform with, so I'm looking for a used keyboard, $1000.00 and below range, that would be good for that. I don't know crap about keyboards. Whats a good quality one for the money? If anyone has experience with one or knows a good one I can look into, it would be helpful.

Re: Keyboard
Single note lines or full two-handed piano style playing?
Are you looking for far-out sounds or more traditional instruments?
I'd look for a used roland XP-30 or XP-50 if you want the traditional sounds, or something like a Yamaha CS-2X for a lot of Analog Synth/dancy stuff.
I have the CS-2X and it does a lot of the traditional stuff too.
$1000 will cover a pretty nice used keyboard.

Re: Keyboard
Most of the stuff right now, is one handed single notes or one hand chorded, but I would go with a full two handed for opening it up later on. As for sounds. Traditional is good, but then again, something that has different sounds, including the traditional, would probably be better for expanding later.
I really don't want to go to far money wise at this time, but I don't want to invest in crap either.Occupation: Department Director for the Department of Redundancy Department

Re: Keyboard
I'd just go for a "Workstation" style synth then.
The roland XP series were pretty cool and they have the module slots to add new sounds. They're a bit old but that is the type of unit I would go for. I think you can get the 50 for around $500 used.
Get something with at least 61 keys so you have a decent range without pitch shifting.

+1 I bought one of the original QS-6 keyboards when GC was blowing them out. Killer sound and they go way cheap these days. If you shop around your could probably buy 3-4 of them for $1000. Re: Keyboard
I bought YAO's QS6 (to go with my QSR rack synth ) and can attest that it's a great sounding keyboard.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
