              I agree, in my school we had people with mental deficiencies.
              This one downsyndrome kid used to come round and grab guys by the balls and stuff, now, when he did it to me once, i just yelled "FUCK OFF!" okay. I got my ass hauled in for being insensitive to his condition and that iw as to treat him like everyone else.
              My point is this. If anoter guy came and grabbed your balls, would you shout shout "fuck off" or worse. I was treating him i'd treat any other guy that grabbed my sack.


              The reason i brought this up is it ties in with zeegler's point that BAd Seed is saying in a nutshell "Don't mock the mentally handicapped" but if a "sane" (i use that lightly and in a general term for anyone with no mental deficiency. DOn't give me the "Who are you do decide who is sane?" line. I had no better words) Person started shouting at you in the street or swearing at you, you'd tell them to fuck off, shut the fuck up and wish they were just locked up.

              what has been said in this thread is not insensitive, it's fact. Just because they have mental problems doesn't mean they should get a free ride and be allowed to do stuff WE'D get arrested for (Harassment, violence etc). If they are a menace to society they should be locked up just like anyone else who commits a crime or is a public nuisance (Comes under breach of the peace).

                    It is NOT ok to let the mentally deficient/defective/retarded out on their own. So what if they didn't have a choice in their mental state? Guess what? They don't have a choice in their freedom to run loose either because they are generally too unpredictable and, as in the example that started this thread, can be a public nuisance.

                    How can anyone say they should just be handed a complete set of freedoms when each and every freedom includes the responsibility that the majority of these people cannot mentally handle?

                    "Locked Up" does sound very similar to "incarcerated" - you lock up drug dealers and rapists and murderers, so saying "lock up" about the mentally ill automatically causes some smaller minds to think they're being accused of criminal activity.
                    Get over it and think with a bigger brain.
                    Should the mentally retarded be locked up? Yes, if they are not able to fend for themselves and cannot function in society.

                    Why not? Define exactly how it's wrong to do that, without "well how would you feel if it was YOU" (or your child or mother or whatever - give me facts not guilt trips).

                      My parents made it clear from an early age that if they ever lose their minds due to old age.. Shoot them... or if that's still illegal, put them in a home.

                          I am insensitive. There is a halfway house near where I work. The people that live there are retards and mental defectives. Every morning at 8am they untie them, and let them out of their cages to roam the streets. Some of them are harmless, and just roam around with idiotic grins on their faces. There are however a few of them that need to be kept locked up for the good of society. One of them walks around smoking and begging for change. He sometimes walks into our showroom, and asks for spare change. I just ran into him at the bank begging for change and saying he was "fucking hungry". There is another one that wears 1/2" thick glasses, and walks around yelling at the top of his voice. This is certainly not good for business. Our showroom is mainly for high-end builders hardware for residential applications, and many of the people coming in, are old and rich. Retards roaming around the parking lot yelling at the tops of their voices are scary to rich, old people. There is another guy who has long straggly hair. He actually kinda looks like Ronnie James Dio. He went to high school with a friend of mine, but somewhere along the line (probably from dropping too much acid) he lost his mind, and when they let him out, he roams the streets yelling at passing cars.

                          These people should not be allowed to roam the streets and intermingle with normal people. They are wierd and scary. Lock them up.

                              I heard about this pretty girl of about 17, who came from a very rich and educated family and she was indeed a retarded person.
