I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Get set up early and be ready way ahead of time. Nothing suck more thatn running around trying to get set up then trying to play.

I play a few scales that I very comforatable with and maybe a lead or too. More of a confidence boost than a true warm up.

On the other hand, if you're the type that does your best under extreme pressure, don't set up early. Wait till the last possible minute to start setting it all up (running wires, etc) and then you're in your element
If you're not that kind of person, become that type of person, cuz chances are pretty good that you'll have 5 minutes at the most to get your stuff on the stage and plugged and running and soundchecked, unless this is a "controlled" gig (friend's house, etc).

You can try to warm up enough to "get in the zone" but in reality you'll probably lose the zone as soon as you stop playing and it's time to go on.
If you feel you simply MUST warm up, stop about 5 minutes before you go on to let your hands rest a bit.

I usually eat before a gig. If you are going on at 7:00 plan on going on around 8:00. I don't drink but when I did I wouldn't start until later on in the gig. I usually drink water with ice. Most of the crowd thinks its vodka.

are you the first band of the night? that will determine how much warm up time you get. if you go on between other bands then you will have less time to worry about warming up.

as far as warming up, i don't do it. i go in cold and just let it go. but i do play for about an hour earlier in the day. all my leads are worked out so i just run through each of them once or twice and then i just play. before the gig i am usually networking or working the merch table...sometimes i'll have 1 drink if i'm feeling tense, but usually not because i have a low tolerance. i tend to worry more about my vocal cords, so i do all my vocal warm ups in the car on the way to the gig.

hopefully some of that helps.
GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!
