Re: Any Fishers here

I'm a salty dog here....big game out on the salt!
Tuna/Marlin/'Cuda/Shark...etc...

Or more local to me (without having to take a 6 hour boat trip up to the Hudson Canyon) Striper, Bluefish, Weakfish

I do some freshwater...hell!...I'm surrounded by friggin' lakes and streams where I live now. My fave freshwater species are Largemouth bass.

As far as gear....Quantum for freshwater, and Penn for the salt!

I don't enjoy fishing... I enjoy catching...

Seriously though, I don't go fishing very often but when I do I find it to be very relaxing and quite fun. My dad lives in Wisconsin so whenever I go out there to visit him he always brings me fishing so its a blast to go out on a small lake and catch some smaller fish. I've also done salt water / big fishing, but its not as relaxing (much more exciting though).

One of my fondest memories is going fly fishing with my dad 3 years ago.

Hey Tets...

How clear is the water you're fishing most of the time? A good way to test is to drop a white lure in the water and determine how far down you can still see the bait...

This will determine what type of gear you should be using. I typically fish Lake of the Ozarks the most, and the clarity isn't so great, maybe a couple of feet at best, in this case, you can get away with some heavy line, 14lb - 20lb. also depends if you're fishing brush piles or not. if so, heavier the better, you hook into a 5lb'r, he's gone with anything less than 14lb test. trust me, I've lost more fish over 5lbs in the last year than anything, dude to poor line or not heavy enough. And a couple of those fish would have brought me several thousand dollars...

I use G Loomisand St Croix rods, IMX, GL3's, Shimano reels, Curado's and a couple of Quantum energy PT's, reels, baitcasters, these are prtty much top of the line tho and not cheap. another month or so, you'll be throwing some plastic worms most likely, so a stiff rod will help out a lot. med-heavy minimum. Spinner baits, crankbaits, etc you can use some medium action rods with lighter line, 10-12lb test.

let me know where you'll be fishing mostly and I'll do some research for you.

Also, ANYTIME you get a few days off, come on down bro and I'll take you fishin man, ANYTIME. LOZ is about 2.5 hrs from here. and I usually go on wed and thurs. Don't want to be on that lake on the weekends, not till Labor day now anyway. Unless of course you've got a 32' scarab, but I haven't found a way to mount a trolling motor on a 32 Baja/Scarab...

Anyway, let me know bro, I've been fishing all my life and do nothing but tournament fish any more.

Oh and if you're fishing the strip mine's up there, get some ultra light sh!t and throw some 6-8lb test, cause the fish can see about 20'+++ small baits, small gear, 4" tubes, creatures, Sweet beavers, finesse worms. I like Green pumpkin, watermelon red, junebug (at night) motor oil worms, brush hog's, and of course a jig and pig is a good all year bait. Look at the Zoom baits, berkley Power baits, worms, etc. Soemthing that's scented, etc etc....

More later, got to fly!

Re: Any Fishers here

YEah I getting up to the chain of lakes up here but closer around me I have been hitting the Fox and some of the Dupage lakes (which I was told are better than the Mchenry and lake county lakes this year) There is one lake off of 53 & Butterfield that is perfect. The main lake is off the street but this one is a short hike into the woods it is limited access to the lake but it was an old quarry that is nice deep and calm

Nice deep and most likely.... CLEAR.

Go get you a little 2 man boat and a trolling motor, those are great for those kinds of lakes. I used to have a Crawdad that we'd fish all the strip mines down here in, we can drag it to one of 15 lakes with ease. Depth finder, transom mount foot control troller, it was pretty cool and we'd get to the lakes nobody else could. Throw it right in the back of a blazer, pickup, etc...

I'll see what I can find out about those lakes up there.

your gear depends on what you are trying to catch.I am a fan of quantum spinning reels.and also like abu garcia and quantum bait casters for bass on a spinning setup use no more than 14lb test line 14lb. in heavey cover I only use 10lb on my spinning setups.bait casters I use 17lb as far as lures be prepared to spend alot of $$$.in fact I'm getting ready to go in the next 1/2 hour.so I'll post some more info later hope this helps

yeah I just put a floor down I had planned on getting a bass boat for some time now so figured why get the fishfinder ect.the bassboat will have it all.the crawdad serves its purpose though. It's kinda funny my partner got me back into fishing last summer.I was going to get a boat but hadn't went fishing very much so I went with the seadoo instead.I should have just bought a boat.my partner for some reason refuses to drive the thing and he's 6'2 and weighs about 250 I'm 5'8 and come in at about 175 it tends to be alittle nose heavy (fatbastard)

I like lake fishing in a row boat or canoe early in the morning or all night long when they are up on the surface.

I've fished lakes throughout CT, VT, MA, NY, NJ, Ocean fishing has big game but not my game. Lakes have my tranquility.

I do clean and eat my catch if appropriate.
