• web gurus enter...

Maybe a dumb question...

Hey, is there anything that you see wrong with hyphenating a name for a domain or URL whatever you call it? I don't see it a lot, but sorta need to use one that is hyphenated.

RE: advanced-transmissions.com Bad idea?

Sadly, there are others without the hyphen etc. So, it would sorta have to be. And unfortunataly, they will be confused i'm sure at times, but no other solution really, and location will sort it out for them.

What is everyones opinions

Might just use advancedtransmissionsohio.com but man that's long...

I don't see a prob with it, I see it all the time, but that's my biz... I think they're both too long personally, but good luck finding one shorter.

Not sure bro... Roll with it, it's only $7 per year.

No. Nothing I see wrong with it. I've seen it used many times.

You can try advancedtrannys.com, but they might think it's a transvestite thing

And why the hell would you pick a long name like that anyway?
Whatever happend to ABC or ACME or Joe's

Seriously, if there are already other "advanced transmission dot coms", I'd pick an entirely different name, because unless you hand someone a card with the address on it or send them an email with the link, they'll end up at the wrong site 9 times out of 10.
You can tell them it's "advanced dash transmissions dot com" and they'll put in "d-a-s-h" instead of "-", and you say "hyphen", they say "huh?"

Thanks so much for all the input.

Yep, it's too long, and I hate that. Advanced-trans.cm is open too, maybe that's better I guess.

Acronyms make it hard for people to figure it out and, it sorta needs it to be the obvious name of the place, haha... Plus these customers aren't so net savvy. And that's another reason I just really dislike the Hyphen, that will throw the casual user..

Luckily, it's local biz, so, "hopefully" obvious to a customer trying to contact us if they get the wrong places that are like in Colorado and Oregon. It will also not be a high volume site at all, won't make or break us. It's almost sorta for Email for the most part. I will likely be handing card or advertisement sheet, so it should be cool.

Thanks again guys!
