Re: Drinking and Kip Winger

My experience has been that playing sober is always the best way to go. Everybody gets the butterflies during the first few minutes onstage, but being well-prepared gets you through until you can relax. After a couple of bad experiences with alcohol and performing, I came to prefer being as focused as I could be onstage.

But if the music isn't demanding, then maybe having a slight buzz won't matter. Just as long as you don't get really drunk. I did that once at a blues jam--had hours and hours to drink before I actually got onstage--and it was scary. It seemed to take about two seconds before musical ideas could filter down to my fingers, and at one point I looked down at my hands to see that I was a fret off of where I should have been. And I couldn't even tell by listening...that's drunk for ya!!
