Re: Schaller, Dimarzio or Dunlop Straplock systems

Everything but my RR1 has Schallers. The RR1 got Dunlops because the shop I was at was out of Schallers. As long as you keep the Schallers tight (I check about once a week if that) they will do the job.

Have you tried the new leather clip-locks?

I've got a leather one on my Les Paul. They're really not new... been around for quite awhile in black and silver leather. I've used the regular seat belt material ones since the '80s, but the leather ones are even cooler!
I've got guitars with the DiMarzio, Schaller and Dunlop systems, but in order of my peference:
1. DiMarzio Cliplock
2. Schaller
3. Dunlop

I've used the Dunlops for years & never had any problems ever.
The dual design Dunlops with the big strap button receptacle are the best.....you can use a standard strap easily if you happen to forget to bring the strap that has the lock ends attatched.

I use schallers, the best IMO.
They are very reliable, trust me, I do the Yngwie thing, nothing happens.

Plain black DiMarzio ClipLocks are the way for me.....

I use Schallers. They've never failed me. Never tried Dimarzio's and a pair of Dunlops failed me once (eventhough it was on a utterly shitty Ibeenhad)

man, this is rough, eh? so many advantages and disadvantages to all...i'm especially cautious with this one though, because its got the steep LP angled front button.

any LP users out there? What locks do you all use?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have used all three. They all work well, but no one has pointed out one problem I've found with the Dunlops...

When you are using the Dunlops with a Les Paul or similar style stap button that is pressed up against your body, your button on your fly or your belt buckle can easily push the button on the strap and cause you to drop the guitar.

I've seen it happen onstage more than once...

A Les Paul button is pressed against your body? What do you do, relocate it to the back?

But yeah, I wouldn't put Dunlops on a V or Explorer type, for fear of accidentally pressing the button. But the Schallers are kinda pointy and would poke in the gut, so...
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

No, but I got one for a bass player that I was teching for. He hated it. Personally, I like the seatbelt material (nylon) strap.

A 25 cent washer in front of the strap and behind the front flare of the existing strap button. If strap opening is to wide a couple of stiches of thread tighten it up nice. Cheap and effective. Only downfall is you can't remove the strap without a screwdriver.

Schallers are on all of my guitars. Have always worked for me.

I usually use Dimarzio for Strat shape guitars and Dunlop for KV or Rhoads shape guitars.
