Occured yesterday..I have been aggressively seeking a job for the last few weeks, applying and interviewing wherever I can. I went in for the inital interview and everything seemed pretty good. They made it seem like it was going to be an advertising/marketing job working with a group in an office setting, which is something I would be intersted in doing. I get called back for a second interview and they tell me it is going to be from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Then they tell me to wear comfortable shoes. I figured at this point I would be doing SOME walking, which I have no problem with....
I spent 8 hours in the hot sun going door to door attempting to sell oil changes as part of a promotional deal with an advertising company. I was an "observer" while the employees did what they normally do. They considered this part of the interview. I was not 100% sure what we would be doing when they called me back for this second interview, I just knew it was going to be an all day thing. (with the hopes it would not be something like going door to door all day)They told me to dress business and wear a comfortable pair of shoes, so I wore my black dress shoes with a gel sole inside of them. To sum it up, I spent 8 hours in 80 degree sun wearing business attire from head to toe. I had to shield my face from sunburn, I have blisters on my feet, and I am having a very difficult time getting around... The worst part about it is I DID NOT EVEN GET PAID FOR IT! The least they could do if they are going to drag people around all day for something that would take an hour is PAY THEM SOMEHOW!!.. To top it all off, they pressured me to give them a response as to whether I wanted the job or not. Please understand I have been interviewing a lot and I am going to take the best thing for me. Clearly this job would not be the best for me. It really pissed me off because any employer should not pressure you to give them an answer like that. I should be able to say something like "I have a few offers, but I am definitely intersted in working for you. Please understand I need to do what is best for me. I will be giving you a response very shortly (a day or so)"
On the lighter side of things, a schizo old man threatened to shoot us with his double barrel shotgun and an oriental man laughed at the salesperson and slammed the door in his face. You have to understand it was no ordinary laugh. It is the kind of laugh a person makes before he rips your heart out.
Anyways, I ended up getting home around 9:30 PM, which is hours later than they told me I would be home. Dinner was cold, my fiance was upset that they put me through that, and I felt like I was just dominated by a horse.
Anyways this is just my rant. Feel free to post any comments
Thanks,
Zach
