you know...I gave the GMG alot of thought.

And I just don't think it'd have the stopping power we need here in treacherous Montana. lol

I've had my fair share of handguns. Sold them all when my son was born. My favorite all time was my 1911 lightweight commander in .38 Super. I have a thing for .38 Super, always have.

at least I'd get great beer and a lot of good amature hockey if I did I like where I'm at in the good ole USA.

I have no problems with people owning them myself. I own a 30-30 hunting rifle. Its just that the handguns are so easily concealed and often times fall in to the hands of the irresposible. Too many stories of kids finding loaded guns and killing each other by accident -or- people using them in fits of rage when if not for a handgun someone wouldnt be dead and someone in prison for murder. I go by the skynard sayng that "they aint good for nutin cept putting a man 6 feet in a hole"

Guns are fun for target practice and hunting and my family all own them. The best pistol I shot was a 12 gauge shot-gun my uncle made into a pistol, it was a two hander and plant you feet. If you didn't have a good stance it would knock you on your ass

I say arm everyone...let's level the playing field..

the kind of kids that take guns to schools are excatly the kind of schools ...well they are not "schools"...they are "zoos"..there is a difference between a school and a zoo..I seen both...they are different!

There is a difference between a young kid and a young animal that looks like a kid....I seen both...they are different.

young animals were made by animals and they will become full grown animals...this is why we need guns..BIG ONES!

If you like revolvers, try a Ruger. Most Ruger revolvers can safely fire anything that can fit into the wheel.

Yes I'm Canadian... but I totally disagree with gun ownership. It's way too easy for guns to get into the hands of the wrong people and end a life by rage or accident (I don't mind police having them). Things would be much better if people defended themselves with their mind or their fists.

                            Re: Handguns...a new hobby?

It's great to think that if handguns were outlawed that crime would go away, etc. One of the biggest problems is that those laws actually take guns away from the law abiding person and leave them in the hands of the criminal. Because the criminals will get them and are not going to just turn them in.

One of the biggest problems when it comes to kids getting guns is their parents stupidity. They are responsible for keeping the guns out of their childs hands and teaching those kids about guns. I was raised around guns, have shot them since I was much younger. I learned respect and what they were for when I was just a little kid. I would never think to pick one up and play with it. People don't teach their kids that, then just leave them in an unlocked bedside drawer.

As for what type to buy - one of the important things to do is to try holding them. Get one that feels comfortable in your hand. The Brownings are really nice for someone with smaller hands - like me. They are great guns too. Looks aren't that important - it's all about the feel!

MrsTekky is 100% right. Education is the key. People need to be taught to give weapons the respect they deserve, and children need to realize that that new fiddy cent video is as "make belive" as the teletubbies.

I am all for gun ownership. I sold my Beretta Cougar .40 and S&W .38 a few years ago because I was in a $$$ crisis and didn't want to sell a guitar. I would like to see a bit more training required to buy a handgun. Maybe a 1 time course with some time in the classroom and some time actually firing something larger than a .22. I took a class when I bought my first pistol which was excellent and only took 3 hours.

I agree with alot of the arguments against guns. I think more education about them.....and I even support gun control laws (to an extent).

If your kid blows his brains out with your handgun, that's your fault. Not anyone elses.

People need to learn responsibility. There should be some sort of written or verbal test that you take before being able to purchase any type of firearm. Let's face it. If a psycho killer is goign to go on a shooting spree, he'll use whatever he can get his hands on.

the largest calibur hand gun I've shot was a 44 mag Desert Eagle. And it didn't really kick back as much as I expected. But I braced myself as if it was a howitzer. I'd get one of those..but they cost too much. No more than 700 dollars is what I'mw illing to spend on this.
