• Backing Tracks Live

Alright so I was thinking about doing some songs that have a some samples and keyboard stuff, but I don't really want a keyboardist in my band.

How do you guys feel about having backing tracks live? I want so Bass Intense sounds that bass guitars don't produce to be a apart of it, and some keyboard rythems.

No problem. A guy used to do a solo act at bars in a college town where I used to live with a keyboard sequencing the drums, bass, keyboard, & harmonica parts and himself playing guitar & singing. It was actually very cool and he sounded great.

Go for it - whatever works, works. With so much Rap/Rock crossover stuff with samples and DJs and all that, not to mention Lip Syncing being more popular than Air Guitar the only people in the crowd that would be upset are the other musicians, and who cares what they think? a guy I knew played in a duo - himself on guitar, his buddy on bass & vox. They had a midi rack unit to cover everything else. He would sequence keys, strings, drums, whatever and just trigger them off at the start of each song. Sounded pretty good too, for the gigs they were playing.

I don't like them if in a band setting. I fyou are using triggered or backing tracks of keys I'd also wonder if you are live or memorex

Now if your are doing a one man act then its no problem.

I love playing with good keyboard players. They can really push you to your best, especially in a progressive type of band. I did a lot harmony runs with keyboard players using harpsachord and piano and its cool as hell. They also can fill a lot of space underneith when you solo.
