That is hillarious. It was filmed in Maryland at the old Capital Center. The guy on the front page of that link wearing the white and black tiger striped shirt sang and played guitar in a band I was in in high school. Talk about major flashbacks.

One of those small cable networks, Bravo maybe, played it a couple of times. I think it is only like 20 minutes long.

Wow, the Capitol Center! I lived the majority of my teenage years at that place. Lost many a brain cell there too....and I'd do it all over again!

I called it the Caps Center right up until they knocked it down. Never got used to the USAir Arena name.

I saw my first concert there in Dec. '85 - Rush, the Power Windows tour.

Re: Heavy Metal Parking Lot

They knocked down the fucking Cap Center!!! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooo.

I saw KISS there in 1978, yeah..that is right motherfuckers! I was 8, and it was my friend's 8th B-day party. His WT mom painted all of our faces for the show. I was Ace, of course.

AC/DC in 1983, DLR and Poison in '88, Pink Floyd in '88...countless others that I forget...hockey games galore, stupid ice shows when I was a kid.

Damn, I can't believe they tore down the Cap Center.

Fuckers.

Also, didn't this footage make it onto "The Metal Years"? I swear I have seen it somewhere else.....but it may be from the VH-1 "Most Metal Moments" show.

I need a copy of "The Metal Years" though..I saw that when it came out, in the theatre. It is classic theatre....hilarious, scary and devastatingly sad.

It was Steve Morse Band actually. I had just started playing guitar 4 months before the show and, unfortunately, didn't fully appreciate him.
In '87, they had MSG opening and '91 it was Vinnie Moore but I got there late and missed him!

Must have been the '83 tour then. I remember seeing them open for Rush one of those early 80s tours.

Re: Heavy Metal Parking Lot

When I saw Rush in '85 on the Power Windows tour in Portland, Oregon, they had the Fabulous Thunderbirds opening for them. Strange combo.

Yeah, they tore down the Cap Centre a couple of years after the MCI Center was built downtown--around 2000, I believe. Abe Pollin (the guy who owns the Wizards and used to own the Capitals) built and owned both arenas, and I guess he figured he didn't need two arenas competing for concert and event business. They put up some kind of shopping center in its place, I believe, and the parking lot is used for FedEx Field (the Redskins' stadium), which is right across the freeway from where the Cap Centre was.

I only moved to this area in the '90s, and I never saw a concert there, but I did see the Bullets play a game there. Strange arena, since the shallow slope of the aisles meant that the upper seats were a long ways back from the floor.
