        I didn't see hippietim on the list so I grudgingly voted for Steve Vai. Sheesh.

                Voted for Macalpine though, just so damn amazing.

                  well, i voted for the other guy, namely jeff loomis. i know he hasn't been around for too long, but his playing just floors me like nothing i've ever heared, and that includes guys like petrucci rhoads or gilbert. i have to admit that jason becker is a very close second...i bet if he could still play nowadays he'd kick everyone's ass by now.

                  ...but because we have to judge him by his old 80s guitar work (sadly), my vote goes for loomis...he alrady outperforms petrucci in my book, and he's not even close to his limit...for guys like him the sky seems to be the limit...

                            Most of those listed are all in their own rights great players who can shred. However, they aren't shredders by nature.
                            When one buys a shredder artist's CD/album.
                            Once you have listened to the first 3-4 songs you have basically heard the whole album. Because, the songs are written to allow and showcase the artists shredding abilities. Theres only two in the list that are true shredders. Meaning, when you have heard one of their songs you heard them all, it least imo anyways. That would be Yngwie and Angelo. These guys, whether its by choice I don't know, can't play much of anything else except shredding. The others on the list can in fact play other stuff and do it well and tastefully. When I hear Angelo or Yngwie, as impressive as they are with their shredding skills, I become nauseous. I can only take listening to one or two songs from them at the most. Any more, I usually force self induce vomiting to make it easier to take.

                                Of course they 'can', they're guitargods. But they don't want to so it'll be pure machine workd instead of playing from the heart. Their heart is with speed and insane sweeping runs, and that's good as well. I'll just take a player that's a bit more diverse in his musical expression.

                                Where is George Lynch on the list btw? Probably one of the best leadguitar players ever, if not THE best.
