Re: This brings back some old memories.........

My Dad never really ever took me shopping or bought me anything. One day after school when I was like 11 or 12, he took me to a bike shop and bought me a Haro Redline (I think that was it, can't really remember), but it was VERY expensive and I doubt he could really afford it. He also bought me a pair of purple flower Vans slippers. Too bad the bike was stolen a year later...

Does anyone remember the "stingray" Apple crate & Orange crate?
The Sting Rays were really easy to do wheelies with..

I was the poor kid on the block, but I would jump any ramp you could build. My "BMX" bike consisted of a garage sale special with the Huffy "BMX Kit" including handlebars and pads. I had the only BMX bike with a banana seat

It also had a huge front sprocket and I had really long legs. I could out run everybody on my block. Even with my white trash garage sale bike, all the other kids had sprocket envy

Needless to say, I kept bending rims as the standard stuff didn't hold up very well to the constant abuse

Don't burst my bubble...I thought I was cool

I'm just a little bit too old to have been part of the BMX thing--I was already a middle-schooler riding a ten-speed by the time all of the little kiddies were terroring the neighborhood on their BMXs. Before that, I had the obligatory little bike with banana seat and safety flag, just like scaz. I pretty much rode mine into the ground. And nope, no safety helmet or pads, like the sheltered kids of today have to suffer with.

I was riding a Sears brand bike for a long time and drooling over the GT and Haro stuff at the shop. Then, "The Search For Animal Chin" came out, and we all switched to skateboards overnight.
Now I'm into mountain bikes a bit. Riding a Fisher Dual Sport 29er these days. Great commuter bike.

I always wanted Hutch Trick Star but, those things were like $800 back then! I had a Schwinn Predator Free Form EX, sweet bike, the lightest bike back then, I think it weighed 23lbs or something. I rode that thing everywhere... ahhh.. good times good times...

[/ QUOTE ] Of course I remember them. I had saved my paper route money and bought myself a brand new red Stingray, must've been late '70's. They were expensive. IIRC it cost me $120, quite a bit of change back then for a kid. The news paper delivery bag went perfect slung over the Schwinn "T's".

I wanted the Krate 5 speed, but it was way outta my price range. They were THE bike to have. I recently have priced used Krates on ebay and they are big $$$$ now. STILL outta my price range.
