They should research this, hopefully it could be used on people who die in wars to bring them back.

Damn, this is wrong on so many levels. I can really throw out MANY examples of this, but I'll stay with Tets on this and try to avoid an open debate on ethics here. But crazy what they can do these days I tell ya...Goddamn, I say find a cure for the common cold before ya'll go raising the dead

I would rather have my stem cell research. This seems kind of trite to me.

I'm trying to understand the extreme negative reactions here, but I just don't get it.

This reminds me of the Star Trek--Next Gen episode (geek alert) where they find a sick kid. The problem is easily correctable with surgery, but religious beliefs on her planet dictate that you can't cut a person's body open. The parents end up killing the kid after successful surgery because she doesn't have a "soul" anymore. That episode made me want to beat the shit out of something.

The only question that matters is whether brain damage occurs during the "intermission". If they find out that the brain can take it, then this would probably save a lot of trauma patients.

This technique is very interesting, but the difference in psychology between dogs and humans is great.

I personally think someone who gets killed gruesomely, with a headshot or something. And then gets revived several days later with this technique, is going to be in a f'ed up mental state.

This is fucked up! Plain and simple. They are going to try to perfect this technique on people in a year or so?!....That's even fucking scarier!! I can see it now....

"Hi... nice to meet you, I'm John...I was dead for a couple of days, but they bought me back.....now give me your brain!!!!!"....LOL!

Re: Bringing dogs back to life after 3 hours of de

This is a procedure that could serve real benefits to humanity. If it truly does not cause brain damage, it could have long reaching and serious ramifications...all of them good.

Sure, the nut bag right wingers are going to have their bible thumping panties in a wad if they ever even try to test this on humans....but they seem to have their panties in a wad over just about anything lately, from the "theory" of evolution (insert sarcastic asshole voice here) to stem cell research to fucking Disney.

I think it would be great to use this to reanimate someone after a year and ask them if they were hanging out in heaven for that year they took a vacation from life. Gee, we may have a definitive answer on that great myth..., oh I mean, "theory"...um, or..............

And further, imagine the additional ramifications.

You could travel in this state into deep space (as long as there was some automated method to "reanimate" you).

You could time travel, people!!! Wake me in 200 years!

Here is my general thought on this... If you have beliefs that you think this si a bad treatment... Don't get it. Your choice but for those who do not share your beliefs should they not have this choice to make for themselves and to explore this through science?

Nicely stated Tetsuo! I agree with you completely.

Besides the moral implications, I think this kind of stuff has great potential, however... how many lives do we want to save or preserve? If in the future there are great numbers of people doing this, then where are we going to keep all these "intermissary" people? Stack them up in coolers underground somewhere? Float them around in storage containers in space? If everyone lives to be 150 or 200 years old, how will we have room on earth for them all?

This seems like just another step in the evolution of humanity. It will be done whether people want it to be done or not. The majority of the world could want this banned, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. If you consider this, and cloning, and the fact that humanity needs to get it's ass off this ball in order to survive before we are burnt, frozen or blown to smithereens, then in many ways it all makes sense.

I think there are deeper implications to this than we can even comprehend right now. I'm all for it, but I would probably never have it done to me.

Re: Bringing dogs back to life after 3 hours of de

Can't say that it saddens me to see a pooch go through this, heck everytime I see testing of chemicals on rabbit eyes I feel like shit.

Having said that and the fact that many people see and consider their pets (cats, dogs, etc.) as equals, I am not surprised to see two completely points of view on the subject.

We all might critisize this issue to kingdom come lay flat on the interstate, sit on the capitol steps and do hunger strikes to defend our beloved pets. If that is what you feel and believe, more power to you.

I wonder, if one of our children, parents or family members comes down with a life threatening disease. A really nasty one. Doctors and the pharmaceutical industry might tell us that the only way a cure could be found is to test it on living tissue.
We wouldn't want to test it on babies, teenegaers or elderly, wouldn't we?
So the only ones left are animals.

At that point, and believe me, you just don't know if you will be thre tomorrow. Would you consider trading a cocker spaniel, german shepperd, calico or siamese cat for the life of your daughter?
I am not saying that by killing a dog, cat or rat will cure your family member on the spot, but the research process will ask for such sacrifices in order to have a cure available when you need it. And you just don't KNOW when you will need it.

When my father came down with terminal liver cancer, I asked the doctor to take a piece of mine and do a transplant, did not even think about it twice. Likewise it made me think that if a cure for cancer could be attained by testing it on ANY animal, I would be totally in favor of it.
The pain I was going through was too much to bear and did not want to see a friend, neighbor or co-worker go through it.

Being inside of the kettle makes you aware that most of the time there is a price for anything and what is more important to you in life.
In my lifetime I lost two dogs, I cried when they died and missed them dearly. With time those wounds healed and now have a cat that I love.

I lost my dad 3 1/2 years ago and a week does not go by without me crying at least once. I miss him terribly.
I would still make the trade today, for testing on whatever, to find a cure for his disease.

Well, with this treatment comes the real possibility of colonizing other planets...

It is inevitable that we will have to leave earth to truly survive as a species.

The greatest limitation is the time it would take to investigate even the closer realms of this solar system. People would simply grow old and die on the journey.

Good points Joe and Annah

I want to further define my statement on the morality of the issue, If you are christian you then teh bible says that we are free moral agents. Bible based beliefs and or your religon may not allow for such a treatment to be done to you. No problem at all. The thing is being christian God gave all humans free moral agency to research and choose their path. So if someone wants to do this procedure it really from a christian standpoint uis between god and them and if they are wrong they pay the consequences.
