Of course if they were also overheard spewing anti-American sentiment, I'd not only fire them, but dump their ungrateful asses in the river.

The French have no right to complain about America. Ever.

                          I like this part:

"Bordet and Lesbre deny they were drinking alcohol and said when another employee was caught drinking on the job, on four occasions, he was only given a one-week suspension."

                          Uh-Huh...so which is it?

                          [/ QUOTE ]

This is from a labor stand point.

Employee A, smokes on the job. Get's suspended.
Employee B, smokes on the job, get's fired.

Two different punishments, same crime. What they are saying is, "We weren't drinking on the job. We were fired because we were French. To highlight this, there was a man who was drinking on the job, and he only received a suspension. Why are we fired, for suposedly drinking, when this guy was, and was only suspended."

With just the details I'm seeing, they've got a very strong case. What has to be looked at, the past employment records, and if any action has ever been taken on them before. Also, whatever state they are in, if it's a right to work state (IIRC that's what they are called) they can be fired for any reason, what-so-ever without prior notice.

                            Re: Fired for being French

I imagine the total work records of the guy who was suspended and the two who were fired are quite different. One incident compared doesn't necessarily tell the whole story...

Yeah that's also a point, is like, we're not seeing complete employment records. The Frenchies could have been supporting terrorists.

                                Re: Fired for being French

Well, they could be right, but I've been in a supervisory position before where something similar was argued. In one case I had a guy who'd been a great employee for 5 years and made one mistake. The guy who cried foul had been with us 6 months and had missed 27 workdays in 6 months, almost a day every week average, did half-assed work, pissed off customers right and left. Comparing one incident made it seem one way, but when you compared a standup guy to a habitual fuckup, different actions were appropriate. But just because I experienced that, doesn't mean it's what happened in this case. It's just why I tend to be cynical about their claim. There's usually more than is first divulged.
