• Who do you call to fix credit the bank fouled up?

Okay, this is going to sound really messed up, but read on.

One day, I'm sitting with my thumb up my ass (as I so often do) and one lady at work mentions, she ordered a credit report. I'm 23, why would I need to order one? I've got really good credit, never late on a single payment, and got quite a few very good credit cards. I don't get turned down for anything when I apply, so everything is good.

Well, curiosity got the better of me. I got online, paid 12$ for a credit report from trans-union.

I noticed on there, 2 problems.

1; It said I had a Lowes card.
2; It said that I had a loan with a 5$ balance.

I was like, what the fuck? So I called the little number (dispute information between the hours of such and such). I said, I've got 2 problems. I do not have a Lowe's card.

Second, the loan you say has a five dollar balance, was paid off...in Feb 04, but another loan I took out...from the same bank.

They said, okay, we'll look into it.

In the mean time, I called the bank. I said, why is there a 5$ balance, on a loan that was paid almost a year and a half ago? Why wasn't it just taken out of my checking account?

Well, through a series of phone calls, I found out it was a bank error, and that they paid it, and updated my credit report. I was like, thank you very much blah blah blah.

I got my new credit report in the mail today. The Lowe's card was taken off of my report, which is good. The problem lies in that loan, that was paid off in 2004...some how I had a late payment...last month!!! How could I have a late payment in 5 of 2005, when the loan was paid off in 2 of 2004?

I called the bank up. The lady said, we'll look into this, but I don't know what we can do. We're showing there's a late payment on this file. Now, the lady I was speaking to, was the one who gave me BOTH LOANS, and we specifically took out the 2nd loan, because interest rates had dropped 2 points, and I went to a lower rate.

Now...my question is this. If your credit information gets fucked up, and you did NOTHING wrong, who do you call? If the bank doesn't fix this, who do I call next? Can I get a lawyer and fix this? I've worked hard for my credit, and it bothers me that some bank can just go and fuck it up. I've never, ever, ever been late on anything. I've never had a late payment, a repo, bankruptcy, not a single solitary negative thing on my credit report.

What can I do, is there an office that can look into this if the bank falls through?

Your bank can fix this in a matter of minutes. All lending institutions have update forms which they can fax to a credit bureau, such as trans union, for quick fixes. An authorized signatory of the bank can have this done for you. Press the issue with the local branch manager and I'm sure you will see results.

I have to send in these update forms on a regular basis and the info usually hits a consumer credit report within forty eight hours.

I understand that you got screwed a bit. But, look how upset you are and how much time you have probably spent on this already. If it were more, then hell yeah, fight it. But for $5? Pay the $5 and forget about it. MUCH easier.

You can also file an online dispute w/Trans Union, and they will also follow back up with the bank. But you need to also check your credit report with Equifax and (someone help me out here)..what's the 3rd one of the big 3?? Anyhow, they can all have different info. I've been through this with James' credit report. His said he bought 2 cars and had a Discover card that he filed bankruptcy on..which NEVER happened, talk about a mess to straighten out. All 3 have online disputes, and they do help you dispute them and get them straight.

The late payment blot will stay on the credit report regardless of whether he pays the $5. He needs to get the bank to fix their fuck up.

The bank said it was there fault, and paid it. If there was an option for me to pay 5$ and be done with it, I would.

It's Equifax, Transunion and Experian. Those are the three major credit agencies.

I plan on checking with ALL 3 agencies, and making sure the bank updates with ALL agencies.

So you're saying they can fix it in a matter of minutes? The woman made it sound like it was going to take a month...if they even wanted to fix it.

let's put it into lame terms, without exact amounts on the loan,

I forget the origin date, but I had a loan for 3000$ (exact amount) I had like 1200 (not so exact). I took out a loan in Feb of 2004, to pay off the old loan, and get 1000$ to fix the car. I got a copy of my credit report. I noticed there was a 5$ balance on a loan. I called the bank, and there you have it, the story above.

I'll get on the phone with the bank tomorrow.

Is this what the form is actually called? When I call up, I want to sound (well I will) very educated, and very informed on the matter.

Actually, no. No negative information can stay for more than 7 years with the exception of a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, which can be reported for 10 years.

They called me this morning, and said that they will update it ASAP. I should be able to see results within 2-5 days they said.

TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian share all of that information, so updating it with one automatically sends it to the other two. When I had all that shit recently with my CC number being lifted, I called Equifax and had the fraud alert monitor activated, and I got lettes from all 3 saying they had received the alert I filed with Equifax.

They also said my name would be taken off the list for random CC offers for 6 months - apparently, that doesn't include your currently-held card, as Chase sent me like 10 in one week

Chilton & ACS I believe used to be out there, and a tradeline would appear on TU or Chilton but not on others. Years ago the credit bureaus consolidated down to three major reporting. They used to be horrible about sharing as well since they were in competition as services but it's been 15 years since I worked in anything credit related, things have become alot more interconnected.
