Re: Dell or Mac?!

If you're anywhere near a WalMart, go see if they have any HP laptops on Clearance. You can order replacement parts directly from their site without going through a "Customer Service Rep" (salesmonkey).
Not sure if a computer parts store would have the parts - no such store near here, but I've had my HP laptop for about 3 years now and it hasn't given me trouble. My dad has the same one and he's had some trouble (screen flickering and a loose solder joint in the power supply plug, but those, I'm convinced, were his doing).
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

The most human thing we can do is comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.

Guess I'll be getting the Dell as it seems that after adding up the 3 years warranty for the other brands, Dell gives the best deal.

Well, when your Dell breaks down you have to deal with people saying "Dude, you got a Dell"

Personally, I'd opt for the Mac. If I were to buy a PC Laptop, I'd buy a Toshiba. We have a "no Dell, no HP, no Compaq" policy at work, if that says anything.

Unfair to link Dell with Compaq or HP. Compaq & HP both suck really bad.

Fong - Good choice on the Dell. Hell, at least you didn't pick the Tandy 1000.

Crap, I forgot about Commodore

I used to own a Tandy 1000 with two 5 1/4 drives. I was in heaven when I finally got a 20M hard disk.

Do you still use it

Wanted to have a Mac but the idea of them switching to Intel chip gives me the creeps.

And i agree, Toshiba make great laptop, but they are also expensive at the same time..

Compaq and HP are terrible. Their machines are just pieces of junk with the lowest quality parts available.

Dell is a step above but not anywhere near where I would want them to be. Better quality parts, but usually at the 2 year mark they start falling to pieces.

Alienware is also crap. If you're out of warranty they won't even talk to you on the phone. At least Dell / Compaq / HP will put you in touch with someone who will talk to you.
