I cant stand them. It pisses my son off when they come on the radio with their latest song and I say "Oh, U2 has a new one out". I dont like that type of music in general. I havent seen this much hoopla over a sucky band since dave Mathews. I just dont get it.

now that is a shitty band, that I totally don't get. cannot stand them or how much hype they get on places like Oprah and all the "indie" stations.
good call!
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
I think they're alright, there are definitely bands that play that kind of stuff that I like better, but I like the atmospheric quality that their music creates.
not into coldplay at all, just not my flavor, but........
dave matthews is actually kinda cool. Clerence carter is one bad ass motherfucker on the drums. Dave has a pretty good voice with different ranges. But yeah, definately a required taste

that's my thing too. it does have a depth to it that is different, and I appreciate that.
good description, I was looking for those words earlier!
then I think about the Gyneth Paltrow thing and it dims my view of him.
we saw her in LAX airport once, we were flying somewhere and were in the American Ambassador Lounge or some shit, their special members only area (only cause my fatherinlaw gave us tickets, he was in on this), and who comes waltzing by but Gyneth on her way to the bathroom. she was nice enough and said Hi to our little daughters. she looked good that day, but generally her paleandveryconcerned look is not my thing.

As a Brit, I have to deal with Coldplay and a million wannabes all the time. Coldplay at least have done a couple of good songs, but ultimately, their music is a celebration of bland mediocrity, and if Chris Martin wasn't shagging Gwnyth Paltrow we'd hear alot less about them in the general media over here....consider me on the side of the coldplay haters, because, if nothing else, they represent everything I despise in music...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get
I figured as much.
What I appreciate about bands like Coldplay, U2, Oasis etc... are the guitar layering. There songs are very rarely straight up bar cords. The guitar tracks have lots of effects and delay and are blended perfectly with the keyboards. To me its very creative. I guess from me being an engineer, co-producer and guitar tech at Power Play Studios for many years I appreciate the recording and writing process more than most. Guitar tracks aren't just genre specific to me. I happen to dig the guitar tracks in almost every Burt Bacharak song. Another band that has fantastic written and recorded guitar tracks is the band AFI. Another band comes to mind that has stellar written/played and recorded guitar tracks. Disturbed. You may not like the band but any guitarist has to admit the guitar tracks are really tight. I could go on and on. Edge from U2 is commonly ripped to shreds by metal guitarists and shredders as being an over processed hack. That couldn't be further from the truth. His guitar tracks are masterful. So is John from The Red Hot Chili Peppers. His guitar tracks are simple and extremely well written and played. Anyway, I dig Coldplay.
