Re: (Rant) Keep business and Private separate.....

Sucks dude, I'd definitely strong-arm the "friends" for the money, but the starving artist thing I really can't sympathize with. Yeah you're out doing your music thang and chasing the dream, but at what cost?
It's not paying you enough to live between gigs?
It's your sole source of income but it's not a guaranteed, stable income?
Sorry dude, hate to rain on your parade, but if you're not gigging enough to keep money in your pocket, you need a job.

It is a sad truth. We all gotta make a living and support ourselves. I really don't see how anybody could live on a musician's budget. It can barely pay rent. Another job is entirely crucial. I don't really see how it's such a bad thing to have a job and gig at the same time. It can be hard to shift times around with two lives like that, but you gotta do watcha gotta do.
Gigging here, we are kicking ass if we make $500 (~750 euros I think) as a band in one night, usually a weekend. Now split that between the band, and if you have an agent he may be taking the equivelant of a bandmember or more, and each member may get $100. Out of four weekends, you've got $400. In Idaho, the cost of living isn't too bad, that may just cover my rent and utilities for a month. Not too shabby, but what about food? I like food. I also like my car (which just broke down and will put some of my gear in danger ). All of that shit is more than the rent itself. The part that's been kicking my ass are the little things around the house. Toilet paper, razors, soap, etc. Not much as they stand by themselves, but they add up!
