Flying back from my drummers house and the timing belt went out. Fucked up the header (I think that's what he called it, I'm no car expert. An oil change would be the extent of my car knowledge) too. He said getting the timing belt changed would be about $250, but labor and that other part are kicking my ass. It was totaled anywhere from $450 up to $600, cost of the header depending. I just dropped by today, and the valves on the header were bent. The mechanic said it may be possible to just trade those out.
How am I supposed to pay for it? That's right, my guitars. My parents can only help out so much, even though it's their car. However, no car = no job. So, I'll probably have to put a couple of guitars in the pawnshop for a month or so. Damn. The only guitar that's worth enough to get sufficient funds would be my Vandy. I don't want to part from that! That thing is my pride and joy (see avatar), it's been with me at every gig I've played, and even when I get better guitars it's not leaving the stage setup. It's a killer little axe, plays and sounds awesome. And it's my first serious guitar.
In the end, maybe my family will give me a bit more credibility for taking the initiative to getting the car unfucked. I won't live with the starving, mooching musician label, I'm not a bum and I will support myself goddammit!
Done now. Thanks for giving a glance for those who did.
Anybody else have similair stories of car breaking down and having to sell gear? I've seen a few classifieds posts here and there with such topics...
