Re: Ford Engines-1997-Expedition

        I hate Ford.

I'm not a big mopar fan, but I know one thing for mopar.

Massively Over Powered & Always Ready.

        Ford-Fuckin owner really dumb
        Fix or repair daily
        Found on road dead

I can't think of anything for Chevy, but I've heard Heavy Chevy. I know some bad ones for Mopar too...More Old Parts And Rust.

Personally...buying a car from what you can do with that name is awesome. It's lead me down a righteous path. Joking...

That said, I'll never own a Ford. I don't see any Ford doing 300,000 Miles. Then again, I've got shitty luck with cars. Anytime I buy something nice (Camero, 3000GT, hell I even love my Civic!) Someone fucking hits me, or something goes wrong with it, that costs way more than it's worth.

My luck, whenever I turn 25, and I go to buy a brand new car, the fucking thing will blow up, right off of the lot!

All of our highway yard trucks are GM. My friend, he works for an auto parts store. They've got Ford Rangers, and a few GM's. My neighbor Skip, he's got this massive fucking Dodge...he NEVER complains about his Dodge.

My other neighbor has a 5.9 Turbo Diesel GM(forget what model)...I always wondered why he had it "plugged in" in the winter...Well I feel stupid, but I learned something.

I actually did at one point ask the neighbors, why do you have such big trucks. They've each got campers, and they are always hauling shit.

Skip everything I typed, because there's too much, and just read this,

If you're hauling, buy a diesel.

New Mopar trucks truck aint all that, and that is for sure. Way too many front end problems and the smaller rear ends are crapful anymore, nothing but trouble. They are are awfully good looking though and I would own one for the looks, but they have a lot of problems.

            Yukon/Tahoe or a Suburban

            [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not a big Chevy/GMC fan, but my wife owns a Suburban and you can't beat them. I use it to haul my boat around, back it down ramps, pull it up ramps, take it on the parkway and it almost feel like there's nothing on it. It truly is a powerful truck.

I actually like Fords have have recently sold several, but if I were to go out to get a truck for hauling, it wouldn't be a Ford. Suburban is the way too go. Experience talking!

              Re: Ford Engines-1997-Expedition

I had a 4.6 in an F-150 extended cab and it was pretty good but its a lot lighter than an Expedition. The last 2 F-150's I bought have had the 5.4 and its a good improvment, those both were SuperCrews. I have the 5.4 in my wifes new EB blacked out Expidition and its pretty good in there as well but I like my F-150 SuperCrew better. If you are towing make sure the 97 has the towing package.

I have had four Fords since 99 and I have had no problems whatsoever with any of them. Before I got the Expedition for my wife we had the GMC Yukon XL and that thing was a dog at take off. I like the looks of the Yukon better than the Expo but I like to get up and go when I hit the gas. pedal

GM has the Duramax Deisel, which is awesome, and they have the Allison transmission. That combo smokes anything Ford or Dodge has to offer. Ford and Dodge make great deisels, but the tranny is the achilles heel in those trucks.

Jack, why don't you just get a 1998-earlier Jeep Grand Cherokee? They had that optional 5.2 litre 318 like your Dakota. I have one and I love it. It's powerful as all hell. We've owned from 1999 to now. Never had any big problems with it either. Little common stuff that any backyeard mechanic can do though!

Oh yeah, those Chevrolet Avalanche's are AWESOME too. I don't care what anyone says. I used to work for a construction/carpentry bussiness and we'd load a huge enclosed trailer to the brim with heavey power tools, 50 sheets of 150 ibs sheet rock, tiles, ect. That thing wouldn't even budge to the weight put on it. Then we'd pack up and go 100 mph down the turnpike. They're so powerful...

My customers all complain of brake problems with those. You've had good luck with yours? My GF wants one badly and I'm reluctant because of their complaints.

I can say the transmission in them leaves a bit to be desired. Luckily I run a trans shop, so I have some ability to deal with that stuff.

                          Re: Ford Engines-1997-Expedition

The Texas farm boys pull a lot and Ford is best in Texas. Thats what the commercial says anyway lol. Seriously there's a couple of rednecks at work that have the Ford 250-350's and they always rag on both Chevy and Dodge's diesels as they have owned them before their Fords.

To me I don't play that shit. I don'tcare as I'll buy whatever I think looks nice it just so happens that the F-150 looks the best to me the last few years and I have no complaints on performance and reliability

My Jeep doesn't really have brake any problems. I meen, my rotor's are due for a turning in a few months, but that really isn't anything. I'm just a "backyard mechanic", but isn't things like brakes all based on how well you take care of them and how not waiting forever to get them serviced? I'm sure on a 1998-earlier the brakes have been changed (i'd hope anyways). I've heard trans problems here and there, but I haven't expereinced any problems with.

Yeah, my customers say they have a lot of trouble with brakes wearing our prematurely, rotors warping etc. Although I know the big Fords, chryslers and GMs also have a lot of front rotor troubles as well. A smaller vehicle shouldn't.

I drive a lot of misc jeeps here at work and they all sem to be iffy on brakes, always something odd with them it seems. I just like the looks of them and so does the GF.

EVERYTHING has some screwed up issues. No vehicle is perfect. I would personally only buy a GM truck at this point even with the rotor troubles, or "maybe" a Toyota fullsize. The latter is quite a reliable vehicle.

Yeah, everything has it's defects I guess. Other then brakes (which haven't been that bad), we haven't had any prooblems. The Moper 5.2 seems to be a great engine. Ours has over 110,000 miles and no tranny, engine, or anything problems really. I run the piss out of it usually too...
