Re: The Doors Like em?
The Doors were the first rock band I ever liked, back when I was 12-years old. Morrison, whatever was wrong with him, was the guy who influenced me to start growing my hair and embrace rock music. Looking back, he was a hack poet whose voice was better suited to lounge music than rock'n'roll, but damn, he was the archetype of the modern rock singer.
By the way, I disagree about the abilities of Manzarek/Krieger/Densmore. For their time, they were pretty accomplished musicians. Listen to the L.A. Woman album--there's some pretty groovy, jazzy stuff on that album. The early stuff, with the cheezy Yamaha organ and lack of bass player, isn't as good. But don't try to tell me that Krieger's solo in "Light My Fire" isn't a classic, even if it isn't remotely shred.
