Why do all Canadian beers taste like skunk?
I have tried moosehead, labats, molsen, lowenbrau(brewed in canada), and when Kirin Ichiban went to canada, it picked up the funk.
I am not trying to slag Canadian beer, but it is noticable. I was thinking it may have something to do with repeated warming/cooling while being shipped.

What do you normally drink. It's probably something to do with your pallet. Canadian beers are extremely varied in their flavor. Labatt and Molson are also not one particular beer. Each manufacturer has at least a dozen products with their own brand name. Moosehead tastes nothing like either of them. I haven't noticed a skunkiness in any Canadian beer versus any other beer.
I've also noticed a trend towards high alcohol beers with 8+ percent. These beers are geared towards teenaged assholes who will drink anything if it gets them shitfaced, and the cheaper the better. One example is Navigator from Holland, and while I said before that I like many Dutch beers, Navigator is NOT one of them. This stuff is repugnant to say the least. I poured it down the sink.
I've noticed that all of the beers I really like (versus beers that are okay) have between 4.5% and 5.5%. Any more than that, and the beer ceases to taste like beer.
We had Molsen Golden and Labatt's Blue, but I don't think it is because they are made in the same factory, I think it has to do with the environmental factors of storage/shipping or aging, or maybe something weird with the water? Maybe someone else has noticed this, or maybe it's because I am so far from Canada. I totally believe the beer itself isn't crappy, something makes it bad, but I can't figure out what it is.
I have decided my only choice is to spend a holiday in Banff and sample all Canadian beers to see if they taste better while I am up there [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] .

The Chimay Ale we get around here comes in 3/4 or 1 litre bottles (40 fl oz = ~1.2 litres) so I was figuring only the fratboys in our hood are buying Chimay since it's at least $6.50 a bottle. I know this honkey likes chimay!

Anybody remember Kronenberg? That was rated highest alcohol per volume for any beer. Not my favorite - the little residue pieces floating in the beer kinda bothered me! [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
I did raise an eyebrow when he wrote down Urquell, and when I read about him watering down Guinness I knew for sure that he is a "beer barbarian". [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
One of my RL friends commented: "Have you noticed how all beers are photographed in front of his microwave or on his kitchen sink? This guy has got issues..."
A bit harsh judgement maybe, but it does raise the question if he is sitting home alone reviewing all these beers. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
