I don't think that's always necessarily the case. I've had some mighty fine microbrewed IPAs that tested out over 7% and were excellent beers.

Not much of a drinker myself but when I do drink beer I like to drink real beer not watered down piss water. Which is why I was stunned this guy mixed Guiness. How can you do that? Thats just wrong! Guiness is great but there are other Irish brews that are alot better, though I am struggling to name any off hand. A couple other good ones, Newcastle (which he reviewed), Bare Knuckle Stout, Pete's Wicked Ale (the Strawberry Blonde is as he said, a bit odd) and there was one fantastic microbrew I had when I was in Baltimore that blew me away. Damned if I can remember what the bar was or what the name of the beer was. In terms of lighter beers with good flavor, I have to say that Sam Adams is not bad. It may sound like I drink more than I do but really when I do drink beer is about the strongest I drink and its not often. Music is my buzz [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

For sure there are some that carry a higher alcohol content and still manage to taste great, but they are the exception.
I was feeling inspired tonight when I dropped into the local bottlo to pick up a carton of Haagen Gold (locally brewed German-style beer - full of hoppy good freshness). So I also grabbed a 6-pack of Tooheys Old, for a taste of something new. It's quite a nice black ale. Very smooth, easy on the palate. I think it'd make a great Guinness-style meat pie too. It has that full, "meaty" flavour, without the overpowering smokiness of Guinness.
Beer - not good for the prostate! [img]/images/graemlins/nono.gif[/img] Seriously, its not. This is especially an issue when you pass 30 years of age or so. Having said that, I still enjoy the occasional Heineken or Guiness. Some of the cute labels may persuade you to purchase, but I suspect most of them fail to live up to more known favorites.
