Re: guitars & insurance
If it's a collectible like a painting from an established artist (i.e. Van Gogh, Renoir, etc) the cost of the insurance is rightfully going to reflect the income level it takes to own that.
By the same token, if you spend $100,000 in one year on guitars and want them insured, you're usually going to be charged like you have $100,000 to "throw away" (i.e. not dedicated to utilities, food, and other household necessities), though it sounds like Brad got a helluva deal.
However, to ask for insurance on guitars that will be toured with is, IMO, ludicrous. Given the undisbutable facts of how many guitars were lost, stolen, broken, etc while used on tour, an insurance company would be committing financial suicide to insure touring gear. On top of that, the Privacy Laws make it easier to scam the insurance company by hiding it at a friend's house and filing a claim.
The insurance investigator can't search your friend's house to see if you're scamming them.
Though they can still hire P.I.s to follow you around.
