  • CD release show tonight - wish me luck!

Even thought it's a month overdue, tonight is my band's CD release party. It'll be our first show with a live bassist, and the longest set we've ever played - the album from start to finish, minus an instrumental, so nine songs total. We managed to get almost every band playing a similar style in our area onto the bill, which is our first "headlining" show.

We haven't played out since March, so wish me luck!

Rake, Paroxysm and Forgotten Sun. I don't know much about Rake, but Paroxysm is Megadeth-style thrash, and Forgotten Sun is "stoner thrash" in their own words.

The show went awesome. With a Static-X show (meh) going on downtown, we still got a great turnout in the `burbs, with what I think was the best possible lineup of "real" metal bands in the area. No rapping, no DJs, just headbanging and horns raised in every direction! We sold a lot of merch, signed some CDs, and surprised the hell out of the booking manager with the number of people who drove a little further and stayed out a little later than usual to see some local metal.

For the gear enthusiasts, it was a sight to behold onstage. One of the guitarists from the opening band had literally picked up a new Engl head just in time for the show, and it sounded killer. The second band had one guitarist playing a KV-3, the other playing a toothpaste-logo Charvel modded from trem to TOM, and a bassist playing a brand new Ironbird bass from the BC Rich custom shop. As for Under Eden, we were doing what we always do, Charvels and Jacksons into "vintage" Peavey amps. I switched around my rig a little, and got some incredible tones, plus we had the benefit of a bass player for a change!

Cool. Sounds like a good night for metal. How's the scene up there in Minnesota? I've heard good things and bad things. What's your honest opinion?
