    New 007 movie in the works

    Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the James Bond films, and MGM announced today that Martin Campbell will direct CASINO ROYALE, the 21st film in the 007 franchise.

    This is Campbell's second time as helmer of a James Bond film. In 1995 he directed the hit GOLDENEYE which introduced Pierce Brosnan to the role of 007 with great success.

    Wilson and Broccoli said:
    "We are thrilled that Martin has accepted our offer to direct CASINO ROYALE. He is an extremely talented director and we believe he will help take our films in a new and exciting direction. He is currently finishing filming 'Legend Of Zorro', the sequel to 'The Mask Of Zorro', and will be joining EON Productions shortly to work on the development of the script with our writers, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade."

    MGM Vice Chairman and COO Chris McGurk said:
    "Martin is an incredibly exciting filmmaker. GOLDENEYE was a wonderful movie and helped reinvigorate the Bond franchise. We're thrilled to have him back to direct the newest Bond."

    Born in New Zealand, Campbell moved to England in 1966 and made his directorial debut on the popular TV series' 'The Professionals' and 'Minder'. He moved to America in 1986 to direct 'Criminal Law' and 'Defenceless'. Following GOLDENEYE, he went on to direct 'The Mask Of Zorro', 'Vertical Limit' and 'Beyond Borders' and is currently directing 'Legend Of Zorro'.

    CASINO ROYALE will be released in 2006 and distributed world-wide by MGM. No decision has yet been made regarding casting for the role of 'James Bond'.

      They should get Joel to be James Bond.

        Ewan McGregor was born to be the next Bond. They need to make '60s style Bond movies, he would be perfect.

          Last I heard they said if Hugh Jackman wanted it, it was his. Now THERE'S a Classic Bond - he's already halfway done it in Van Helsing [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

          Ewan McGregor would be another "George Lazenby" Bond - he's got the accent, he's got the aristocratic playboy attitude, he's got the physique, but he just ain't got the "style". He's got an "Iowa Farmboy" face like Mark Hamill did in the first Star Wars - it fits the Farmboy type of character, but not the world-wise James Bond character.
          Now if they wanted to do "James Bond - The Early Years", then yeah, Ewan McGregor, but if they want to do a continuation of the Pierce Brosnan Modern Day Bond, go with Hugh Jackman.

          But if they are remaking the original Casino Royale (musical comedy) then they gotta get Hugh Grant to do David Niven's James Bond, and Danny DeVito as the head of SMERSH [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

            Ewan McGregor as Bond? Eh... Not in my book. Too much of a softy. He can't play aggressive / dominating roles convincingly and he always comes across as goofy.

            Rumor going around is that the following 4 people are up for consideration. Ioan Gruffudd, Julian McMahon, Alex O'Lachlan, and Daniel Craig.

            Daniel Craig - Yes. Just needs hair dye.

            Julian McMahon - Might work, but I don't know if he could pull it off acting wise.

            Ioan Gruffudd - Way too young, and too much of a "pretty boy"

            Alex O'Lachlan - Seen only one picture of him, never seen him act. Didn't think he looked like Bond material.

            Additionally, not to be cynical or anything... But a movie out of Casino Royale? Having read the book, that seems like it'd be a bit hard to make it interesting. The concept is pretty cool though would probably sell well since gambling has become so popular as of late. I'll just be happy as long as there isn't a lame Bond girl like Halle Berry (can you say overrated? I can!).

            With Martin Campbell directing it should be good. He made the best modern Bond film, in my opinion.

                The Bond franchise blows chunks. I wouldnt be surprised if we see Michael "I'll do anything" Caine in the lead role...........
