NJ to possibly ban smoking while driving

Just saw this and while they say it might not pass, I'm curious what the general public thinks. Personaly, I see both sides. Smoking can be a distraction while driving and could cause wrecks due to inattentive driving. I'm not saying every smoker is like this but I can defiately see where some are. It might also help cut down on people throwing their butts out the window. Again, I know not every smoker does, but some do.

The flip side is: does it really seem right for the government to say what you can do in your car?

Yes but you are possibly endangering the rest of the public (how many accidents have been caused by smoking and driving or eating and driving for that matter [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] it just might be better to take away everyones vehicles LOL) AND smoking is a public issue these days.

I have never known an accident cause by smoking ..or lighting a cig..

not that I smoke..or care about people who do..

but what about fuggin' sneezing...I almost got into an accident myself by fuggin' sneezing...

sneezing is more dangerous on the road than smokin'..I think!

Yeah, like I said, I can see both sides and if I had to vote on it, I don't know which way I would go. Personaly, I'd like to see them tackle using cell phones while driving also. I'd give up smoking in my car for a cell phone ban while driving [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img].

NJ already has a ban on using cell phones in the car. You can only use a hands-free device, like a headset or earplug. You'll be ticketed if seen with a cell phone up to your ear. Good thing my cell's got a built-in speaker and I just put it on my lap when I need to use it, because I can't stand that headphone/earplug shit.
And I don't smoke, but I think it's bullshit they're trying to ban people from smoking in their own cars.

yeah we have cellphone laws like that too...but the ticket is like two bucks...it might be three bucks now..

that is not going to stress anyone...they need to be at least twenty bucks..I think!
