Re: NJ to possibly ban smoking while driving.

It won't go thru....they've been trying this for a couple of years now, and it's been thrown out everytime. Now..they can ticket you if you're smoking with a minor in the car....that's a given though. If you smoke, don't freakin' smoke with your kids in the car.

Yeah...just more anti-smoking propaganda making it's way into the media.

Personaly, I'd like to see them tackle using cell phones while driving also. I'd give up smoking in my car for a cell phone ban while driving .

NJ already has a ban on using cell phones in the car. You can only use a hands-free device, like a headset or earplug. You'll be ticketed if seen with a cell phone up to your ear. Good thing my cell's got a built-in speaker and I just put it on my lap when I need to use it, because I can't stand that headphone/earplug shit.
And I don't smoke, but I think it's bullshit they're trying to ban people from smoking in their own cars.

[/ QUOTE ]

Didn't know NJ had a ban on cell phones. We need one bad here in Oregon. Every other car on the road has a driver gabbing on a cell phone it seems and then you see them swerving, erratic acceleration and when they turn, no signal or anything and half the time they don't even look to see if anyone (or anything) is in the way. Scares the hell out of me.

Yeah, I think the cell phone law started either this year or last year.

Cell phones are def more of an issue than smoking. But like was said already, we already have a cell phone ban in Jersey. Hands free only. But a study showed that this is just as dangerous as holding the phone to your ear. I see these dangerous people on the road all the time. Reading newspapers, putting on makeup, looking at maps. Whatever happened to just fucking driving?

I don't smoke & can't stand to be near it, but I think people should be allowed to smoke when they drive if they want to. I wish they'd use their ashtrays, though, then empty them in the garbage. People around here will just dump out their ashtrays at a stoplight. Fuckin' nasty! I agree that cellphones are way worse. Even w/ a handsfree kit, talking on the phone puts your brain in a different place & makes you a menace on the road. It's not the same as talking to someone else in the car.

There is one bright side to this. Less people emptying their ash trays in parking lots, on the street or using the roadway as their own personal ashtray.

You're fuggin right. I did that and ended 2 lanes over.
I am a New Jersey smoker, but I don't smoke in my car, not because I can't, but getting kicked in the nads by my wife would be worse.

I like smoking in bars, outside my house and work. I don't like smoking in restaurants, cars or anywhere else it annoys me. Believe it or not, it annoys me in restaurants. I like to eat, not smell the smoke of a cigarette, whethers it's mine or someone elses.

Re: NJ to possibly ban smoking while driving.

I quit smoking almost 3 years ago, (was so sick almost died..but whatever, I quit). But I won't have anyone telling me what I can do in my own truck. My husband still smokes and that's his business. He is paying for our truck and can smoke there if he wants to. He (or me used to) smokes without a 2nd thought. It's 2nd nature. To say it causes accidents is unfair (I think). But cellphones...that definitley puts your mind in a different place. Hands free or not. You are not concentrating on the road like you should be. We have cell phone bans also in Oklahoma, but the thing is...a cop has to CATCH you using it. So, I think the law is worthless. I see 10 users a day on the phones..while driving (mostly in MY lane), and no cop around. If whoever is driving in our truck gets a call, the other one answers it. If we are alone we ignore it. They can leave a message and we can call them back. That's what voicemail is for right??

I am not a smoker nor do I care about it one way or the other however....We have lost enough freedoms in this country already in the name of saftey.People have become such timid sheep in this country that it is scary.ya know if you tip your water glass to high water could go up your nose and you might drown....when do we get the must use a straw law.The world is a dangerous place and if they stop all those driving incidences you know what will happen...the leading cause of accidents will be singing to the radio while driving....thats right no more radios in moving vehicles. It would be nice if we could make the world accident proof but all the laws in the world just wont do it.I think I am going to go comb my hair eat a pizza smoke a cigarette read a book and steer with my knees...
