There's no need for that. Back off dude. Let's all take a breather on this one. I don't support Newc's theory either, but let him believe what he chooses. It matters little to him, as he doesn't smoke pot anyway. It's not enough to start flaming people over, and that's what this looks like.
Let's all get along.

Yeah, but you forgot about all the 's at the end of his sentence . That kind of changes the perception of how he said what he did. He's just calling Newc out on his previous comments.

MBreinin:
Why should I have any sympathy for the kid? I said I felt for the parents and family (gramma/grampa, aunts/uncles, brothers, etc), but the kid KNEW he wasn't supposed to be doing it because he was sneaking around doing it, and then lying when asked about the missing 3-pack.
The kid deserved it, regardless of whether or not he thought or was told that it's not the same as huffing paint/Right Guard/etc.
Perhaps if the kid had a bit more sense than to chase a high his friends told him about, he may have mentioned to his parents that some kids at school were discussing it (without saying straight out WHO said to try it). THEN the parents could research it to at least read the label of the can, and would have some kind of base to stand on when they drilled the kid for names and details once they found out it was and oxygen-displacement-high.
But no, he chased it, he caught it, he earned it.
Before you try beating the odds, make sure you can survive the odds beating you.
And how would I possibly "deserve" to be in this same situation simply because I don't have any sympathy for the kid? Because he's a kid? A wee lad? A baby?
He was old enough to know better and fully accountable for his own actions in this event. His Dad was a cop who discussed drugs with him. He knew that huffing was bad, and he knew that if you can't do it at the dinner table, you shouldn't be doing it.

You know what, he was a KID. A kid with a cop for a father and he was probably terrified of his father and of getting in trouble. He knew it was wrong, but he probably had no clue that it was deadly. He was 14, not exactly and age where you are a font of wisdom and experience and not an age where you DESERVE death for this kind of behavior. He deserved it? Deserved it? No, this kid did not deserve death, and the fact that you believe he did sickens me.
Fucking HUBRIS.
You are just using this kid's unfortunate death as some personal stump for your preconceived notions of drug abuse and drug abusers..... something that I gather from the above posts, you have about as much working knowledge of as this kid had of the risks of Huffing.

hey no harm no fowl..
everyone takes a stance..everyone does a little dance..
and I'm too high to find my pants...who cares I don't need them ..
NEWC is OK in my book...he's always wrong..but he's ok...
hey some misguided people think I'm always wrong..
and if somebody doesn't like me...I make sure it's for damn good reason...no time for that petty PP shit crap on my watch!
The way I am...I'd either dot your eye or hump your leg...so what's it gonna be..makes no difference to me..
I sound like Mohamed Ali when I'm high...just look at those rhymes..
I think ol' Ali may have been the very first rapper..he' was probably high..well it was the 60s..

So what are you saying, let there be no consequences to 14 year old's actions? Death is a very serious consequence, but it was deserved. We're told all the time not to huff, don't even go on that he didn't know it wasn't good for him, that's bullshit. We've had that jammed down our throats in DARE classes since 1st fucking grade. Not to mention, those cans DO have warning labels, any compressed air cans do, even whipped cream and cheese for Christ's sake!
I know what happens in school, and I know what all the other kids know. I'm one of them, or not far from it at least. I just barely graduated two months ago. Things haven't chaned in the 12 years that I was there, and I highly doubt they've changed in two months.
Re: Dust Off - Another tragic tale of a dead moron
To a certain extent I agree with Newc on the kid... He WAS old enough to know better, he HAD been informed, and he made a bad decision... But as to whether or not he fully understood the danger, I´m gonna guess no... His death was his fault and nobody else´s, yes... but still tragic for the family, and I think few will disagree that some people just stay "stupid kids" a bit longer, esp. nowadays... While I feel stupidity should be punishable, death is sometimes a bit harsh.... This is IMO one of those cases, near asphyxation to the point of Comatosa and a few weeks in the hospital from a frostbitten lung would probably have sufficed

Believe it or not, it can be done... And I´m not talking about "Hemp Honey" either, which is readily available...
The substances TetraHydroCannabinol and TetraHydroCannabinDiol are available in pure form for experiments in the Chemmical and Biloogical Instututes of Freiburg university, as well as all substances that would be needed to start the synthesis of them at an advanced stage... And ALL of their issuance is even more strongly controlled than most substances needed to synthesize explosives... In the sense of "OK, No problem. WHO are you,HOW much do you need, for WHAT experiment, WHO´s the Prof, WHICH lab are you using, WHEN exactly do you need it... And WHAT were you planning on doing again exactly?"... Bit tight security for control of a totally inert substance IMHO
I´ve got an experiment for you, I´m pretty sure that if you do it and keep an open mind, and objectively watch that you´ll see it differently... If not, them I´ll gladly not toke anymore for the rest of my life (I´m serious here, I will never smoke again if you do this as instructed and honestly do not see any effects )
Take some Hemp honey...one drop on any normal cigarette will take a good hard swing at even the most hardened potheads grip on reality... and it will often also cause problems such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, loss of coordination, hunger, and other "placebo effects", esp. on non tokers... Try it, drop a few on cigarettes, and give them to non tokers without their knowledge... That means no placebo effect, because no knowledge and no expectations.... But for some reason they exhibit ALL of the same behavior as those of us that know what to expect... Alternatively, slip them hash cookies instead of normal chocolate chip ones, or mix flakes of hash into milk-based hot cocoa... The important part is them not knowing... Same effect

thanks dude...you always seem to bring a smile to my fuckin' face..
and that's what I intend to do in my own retarded way here ...some folk don't share my "humor" but that's OK...either you like it or ya don't..
but it won't change nothin' on my end..people are who they are ...period.
no changing that!
and no matter what anyone says..people don't change ..
you are born who you are and you will die that same person..that's what I think..

Re: Dust Off - Another tragic tale of a dead moron
I certainly think that a 14 year old kid should be responsible for his actions. I think he acted in a foolish way. I think that he danced with death, and he lost. I don't think he really knew the full gravity of the risk he took. I don't think he deserved to die, an innocent kid does not deserve to die. That is my issue with Newc's potrayal of this tragic event. He could have posted it in a different tone, one that comports more with learning a lesson....but having some compassion as well.

Re: Dust Off - Another tragic tale of a dead moron
hmmmm...nobody here never did anything "stupid" at the age of 14..
for he who hath no stupidity within him..please cast the first stone..
I bet if that kid lived to be 30 ...looking back on that day would have been thought of as .."stupid"..
but if that 30 year old died of THAT same "stupidity" years later..then so be it..
