Selling England By The Pound was a great album, but I'm a sucker for Peter Gabriels voice.

Bet all you want, but you'll lose every time.Your Mother may lie to you about her relationship with God, but I was there at the beginning of it, and no one here. Credibility has nothing to do with it. I saw God's Work first-hand - the work that He did in my Mother's life and in my family's life, and there has never been nor will there ever be anyone put on this Earth who knows more about what has happened in my life than me. Period.

[/ QUOTE ]My mother died in 1983, victim of a driver who blew through a red light and hit her in a crosswalk. I'm sure you figure she deserved it, somehow. So you saw God and heard His voice when he told your mom she could smoke and live, after she lied to Him twice before telling the truth as to why she smoked? RememberYOU said she lied twice before telling God the truth, not me. Just saying, if she'd lie to God, why not you?As for this kid, what do YOU know specifically about this kid that makes you certain he knew that dustoff would kill him? And what about, "Judge not, for ye shall be judged"? Pick and choose the Words you'll follow?Helping your folks out is fine and really is laudable, but have you ever lived on your own or have you always been with your folks? You're very intelligent but are also quite irrational on topics like this. What are your rationales for 1) claiming to be Christian but displaying none of the Mercy that Jesus said comes first; and 2) being the only person on Earth who disclaims the psychjoactive effects of pot? The "you wouldn't believe me if I told you" line is a copout, since no one believes you now anyway.

A closer eye will reveal that his wife was also his niece, at least in the KJV. In all of the other versions I've seen, it mentions this as well.

I love bible study.

Lerx - Sorry to hear about your Mother, but I don't get how you think that I'd say she deserved it?
Is that what's going on now, you people are trying to twist the very clear and understandable text that I'm typing into whatever fits into your own distorted perceptions?
Try these "Yes Or No" questions:
-Did I say the kid in question derserved to die becuase he was playing basketball and there was the possibility he could die?
-Did I say the troops deserve to die because they willingly enlisted and they knew there was a chance they'd die (as was alleged in the other thread about that spaz on Hannity & Colmes)?
-Did I say that anyone who gets into a car deserves to die because of the possibility that they could be killed in an accident?
-Did I say that anyone who crosses a street deserves to die because of the possibility of being killed?

Here's a hint: The answer to all 3 is "No".

I said that the kid in question deserved it because he knew he was not supposed to be doing it. Was your Mother robbing a bank at the time? Was she dealing drugs? Was she planting bombs? I doubt it. So where are you getting the asinine impression that I would believe that she deserved to die "just for crossing the street"?

Was your Mother supposed to be crossing the street? Usually that's how people get anywhere, so I'm assuming she HAD to cross the street.
Crossing the street is hardly the same thing as shooting compressed air into your lungs on purpose. At least to me, anyway.
Are you saying that substance abuse is the same as crossing the street? Sure they're both easy enough and the risks are about the same and "people do it every day" and it's "part of everyday life", but other than that, where are the similarities? Tell me, as it seems you're a bit confused on that particular matter.

Did the kid in question HAVE to get high? Did he HAVE to pursue a path of self-destruction?
Not in the sense of "Jeez, Morty, did ya HAVE to go and say that?" but in the sense of "Clean Your Room, Load the dishwasher, Do your homework, Suck some DustOff" being on his list of chores?
Again, I doubt it.

And I'm also a bit confused on the level of interest in my housing situation. Is this somehow relevant? Yes I've lived away from home for a time. When my parents lost their house and their business in 1989 and moved to TN, they asked me to help move the stuff up here. With a dwindling job market in New Orleans, I hitched a ride.

Now let's get something straight regarding that particular conversation between my Mother and God:
Her answers were not "lies", as you put it. It was more of a case of "Y'know, I never really thought about why I smoke, I just do. So lemme give it some thought - well, for starters, I like to smoke after I eat because it calms my stomach, I like to smoke in a stressful situation because it soothes my nerves, and I guess because I enjoy it."

"Judge not lest ye be judged" - true, but that mostly applies to a totally different situation, like if the kid was still alive and shoplifting DustOff from Wal-Mart, it would be wrong for me to judge him as a no good hoodlum who'll end up dead in a gutter.
But since he killed himself, I think he's already passed his own judgement, so "No Harm, No Foul" in my favor on that one

Mercy? Define mercy for me and how it should apply here.
I have no compassion for those who willingly throw their lives away. Why should I? What have they done to deserve it? Should people not have to answer for their own actions?
Oh wait, baby rapers and murderers and cop killers and terrorists should, but not 14 year old kids?
Darn, I seem to have forgotten about the age limit on being responsible for your own actions and paying the price for your own stupidity - that only applies to...what was that age limit again? 18? 25? 50?

Or should people who "just wanna get high" be excluded from any sort of consequences and responsibility? I mean, they're not really hurting anyone by sucking a can of freon or smokin a joint or shooting a needle in their arm. It'd be different if they were getting their kicks by firebombing coffee shops or sniping people from a clock tower, but this is "sit at home, mind yer own business, take your own personal life", right?

Now let's be honest, the real problem you people are having is that he was a kid. What if the same story was about a 25-45 year old Lawyer, Doctor, Rock Star, Actor, Astronaut, Politician, or Athelete? You'd all be saying "wow, that sucks, but that's what ya get", even though he's someone's kid. The guy that crashed the plane Randy Rhoads was killed on was somebody's kid, is he absolved of responsibility?
Is John Bonham absolved of responsibility for his drug abuse just because he was the drummer of Led Zeppelin?

As for pot - if, as you say, no one believes me now anyway, why bother explaining how I know what I know about it?
And no, God did not tell me about it

Here's an interesting read for you, Newc. Where the hell did the other people come from? There was never any mention of God creating anyone other than Adam and Eve.
Though, I always heard about Adam being with Lilith before Eve.
http://www.abarnett.demon.co.uk/atheism/eden.html

[/ QUOTE ]

There was no Lilith in the Garden Of Eden before OR after Eve got there.
I keep hearing this and people say she was there to "show Adam the ropes" - what "ropes"? How to screw? How to jerk off? How to wipe his butt?

And Genesis states clearly where the other people came from - they evolved from the creatures of the sea. They ate the fruit of all the fruit-bearing trees and plants and seed-bearing herbs (vegetables and whatnot), before God made Adam and Eve. This is the people of the land of Nod where Cain found a wife.

And yes, God created weed. He also says "all things in moderation".
Further on you see it mentioned to avoid those things that alter your personality (not worded exactly like that, but it's pretty close). This includes things like weed, coke, meth, crack, heroin,, etc.
