Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

What did you mean by 12 ga. then? To us

12 ga. = 12 guage shotgun.

Not what you meant? Or did you somehow want to fire an arrow with that?

12 guage shotgun goes "BOOOOM"

Exactly, you can't go killing an animal, that doesn't know better. I think mistreating an animal should be a felony, but there I go again, with my fucked up political views.

If you've got 50K to spend on a car, you've probably got a garage. Park it there. I know you shouldn't feel "chastised" to leaving your vehicle outside, but it's a harmless solution.

Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

Definately kill the damned cat. You think if you gave the owner the choice of paying $5000 to repaint your car or you killing the cat they would actually pay you the money? Sure, color matching body panels has come along way ,but, they are not purrrfect. And over time, the panels will fade differently. I have seen it over and over again. Its their cat, therefor, what that cat does is their responsibility. Let them pay a pro to buff out your car.....that will cost about $100-150. Wonder how many times they will let that happen before kitty gets locked in doors.

I don't know why people look at cat and dogs differently. They are both pets and they both can do some damage. I just think its wrong that you should have scratches in your hood because of someone else's fuck up. Of course, I am overly anal about the appearance of my vehicles. Its just the way I was raised. Hell, my grandfather had me buffing out his cars when I was around 12 or so.-Lou

Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

I dont view cats or dogs differently... along with all animals, none should be killed because of OUR own stupidity and irresponsibility. Like already said, scare the hell out of the cat, it probably wont come back.

I know if it were my cat who would be killed, Id be after some blood if I found out who did it. Id probably be put in jail if I got ahold of the person that did it. Animals dont know any better, dont take it out on them.

And as strongly as you feel about your cat.....I feel that way about my car. No, my car is not a living thing ,but, it is something I have poured sweat and blood over to make the payments, tune it up, personalize it. Why should someone with a nice car not be able to park it out in the sun where they can enjoy its appearance? So someone with a dumb ass cat can screw it up. Kill the kitties. They make more. Maybe the next will be more considerate.-Lou

Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

Lou, if someone killed my cat, I'd show them how I can keep 8 shots in their chest.

I'll be honest, I don't see the cat getting up and scratching the car. Maybe as, outlined above it jumps up and puts out it's claws. I don't see some cat, just going "let's claw the fuck out of the hood of the car" and doing it.

Are you going to shoot the rock that comes up from a semi's tire and chips the paint? Are you going to shoot the wind that blows a stick from a tree, to your car as you're driving up the mountain?

I don't think shooting anything is the option, yeah I'd be pissed too if my car was fucked up, but it's not "the cats fault". You think it understands value? Make the owners keep it in the house, or keep your 50,000$ car in the garage.

Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

Big difference here Deneb - unlike a cat, the rock / stick / other inanimate object won't be back on the hood scratching the shit out of his car tomorrow and every day thereafter.

And yes, cats will absolutely damage the finish on cars, I've seen it live and in person many times. Car hoods are slick and cats reflixively do what they do whenever they're trying to get traction: they extend their claws and attempt to dig in.

The fault here lies with the irresponsible cat owner who would, IMHO, have no room to bitch if the cat were shot, poisoned, or otherwise disposed of. If the cat owner loves his cat so much then he needs to keep it inside where it won't have the chance to tick off his neighbors by destroying their property, no?

Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

Yeah, I agree. We're not allowed to let our dogs run free throughout the neighborhood, but somehow it's ok to let cats roam free and then bitch if something happens to them? I'm not necessarily advocating killing cats that may do damage to ones property, but one must accept the consequences if they let their cat roam free. It's called responsible pet ownership. Why should someone not be allowed to keep their car in their driveway of their property and not have resonable expectation of it being safe? I just don't get it.

Re: CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Need help!

Cruelty to animals should be a felony. I don't know if you read my post (if not, read it again, I imlore you) I said, have the owners keep it in the house. Call the local police, and let them know, that the neighbors have a cat that roams free. I know where I'm from, if you're cat is roaming around, and is not current on it's shots, they take it away. I know around here, if you have a dog, and you let it run rampant, it has to either be chained, fenced in (with an area of rest, out of the sun)or accompanied by you.

If an office wanted to be a dick, if you were walking to dog without a leash, you could get in trouble.

Hotrod, I'll offer the same advice to you, read my posts, I actually said "you shouldn't feel chastised...." It's above, read it.

I just offered multiple solutions. As for a cat not being able to claw the hood, I didn't say that, I actually said (again, It's above) that I could see it happening, as outlined above, I've just never seen it happening, and I don't see the cat saying "well gee, who can I fuck up today by clawing up their car?".

The solutions are there,

Park it in a garage.
Speak to the pet owner.
Call the police.

Should you kill the cat because of the owner? Yeah, that's real intellegent. "Sorry kid, I'm going to kill your dad, because you don't know any better."

He said, he knows it's the cat, because he's seen it. He mentions NOTHING of speaking to the owner, the police, or anyone. He actually came here, to find out how to get rid of the scratches. I don't believe he asked "How can I kill the cat?"

I honestly, cannot believe I'm reading ANYTHING ANYWHERE that advocates the killing of an animal.

If you like yer cat, keep it in the house where it belongs or take a chance it may come up MIA. My dog gets out, they'd wanna shoot it.

Maybe get some buffing compound, rub it on the cat, and buff the car with the cat.

Or be like Bill and pee on the cat... I'd bet it wouldn't like that much...

Well Deneb, I will put it like this: Your cat can park his ass on my car, but, in return.....I will park my car on top of your cat. I think thats a pretty fair trade off.

Parking the car in the gerage is unacceptable. Again, I want it to be out in the sunlight to enjoy it. Park your cat in the house and people won't have that problem.

Speak with the owner. Yeah right. As soon as you mention it, the owner will deny anything because he is afraid you will sue him for a paint job.

The authorities. I used to be a cop. Do you think they are going to bring out the CSI to due dna samples and paw print analysis. Nahh. I highly doubt it.-Lou

How about taking a picture of the cat on the car and THEN calling the police and confronting the neighbor. Nothing better than undeniable evidence in your hand.

My guess is that the neighbor will then pay to get your car repaired and he will keep the cat indoors.

Yeah, I did read it.

I also believe that cruelty to animals should be a felony. "Torture" of an animal is wrong. Abuse of an animal is wrong.

You think the cat's going to be able to tell you who owns it ? Probably not.

Around here if I called the police to whine about a neighborhood cat, at best they'd laugh me off the phone. Maybe in your area they have a special SWAT team for these things, but not here, so that's why I didn't think of that as an option.

I don't think anyone here said anything about killing the kid's dad and comparing killing a person vs killing a cat is just plain ridiculous.
What if it's a stray? How do you propose we get rid of all the strays? I'm not saying kill them all, but what is the solution.? Sooner or later they will be killed whether it's by private party or by the "Humane" Society.
I believe the cruelty to animals starts long before there's talk of killing it by people letting their cats roam free and having litter after litter of kittens. Again, it's called responsible pet ownership.
