My job takes me back and forth to the UK 4-6 times a year to work at Porton Down. I usually stay in Salisbury (great town) and was wondering if any of you Brits had any suggestions on what to go see outside of Salisbury (besides London and Bath and Stonehenge.....already done all that)

OK,
I live around 30 miles west of Salisbury, which over here means that while I have an idea of that area, I ain't an expert!
It depends what you're looking for and how you get around:
Old Serum in Salisbury is pretty cool, but you might have already been there
The south coast is OK (Weymouth, Bournemouth and Poole aren't far)
You're not far from Glastonbury (Joseph of Arimethea was supposed to have planted his staff in the ground which grew into a thorn tree (the queen has a tree in the grounds of Buckingham Palace which was from a cutting from that tree), and it's a hippie heaven with the Tor and all that!)
Winchester is a nice old-english town
Bristol is the nearest big city other than London - it's OK, but nothing particularly special
Avebury Stone circle is cool - a less comercialised, less spectacular Stone Henge (just big rocks on end, but the diameter must be a mile or so)
I'll have a think and see what else I or anyone else can come up with.....

I don't think Salisbury is actually famous for anything other than the tallest church spire in the UK, but I guess some sort of awful steak I've never heard of could have come from there [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]Popular is not the same as good
